Which modules to update?

Having caught the bug after doing 241E on the DME, was wondering if there are any worth while modules to update on the car?

Any value added to try an update on something like Kombi or frm?

The ones you don't want to update unless you absolutely have to... is FRM (footwell module) and CAS module.

FRM's are prone to brick during updates. Not always, but most avoid even messing with it. CAS is the key and such. recommended to avoid updating if at all possible (normally is).

good luck!

Thanks for that info. I am not in "need" of updating anything in particular and I got the DME updated which is what i really wanted. Makes the car better to drive. The rest of the funcitons are secondary. Maybe I just give up on this thought of doing all the updates!

A cooperative dealer can check the i-level in a blink by reading your key. If you let them update the sw I believe all modules that have a later sw version automatically will be updated in one go. I had it done a couple of rounds. Stuff like DCT sw have changed quite a bit since 2008.

Dealers typical hesitate to perform an update, might want to to take any risks. They are in my experience however low, depending on how old your SW is I'd definitely do it.

Cheers

I also updated from 60E to 241E based on sangria's thread. It makes driving the car at lower rpm much smoother.

I was thinking of updating the CCC. There's multiple modules to update and looks like it has the possibility of bricking based on other threads.

Another one you can try is the gauge cluster. I think it changes some of the text and icons. I am considering doing that.

I updated the IHKA but that didn't do anything I can see.

The right thing here is to have the integration level of the car upgraded. This will update every module in the car. You cant do this yourself without an ICOM and a machine running ISTA.

A dealer can do it, or if you can find someone with this gear they can do it for you.

By selectively upgrading modules, you risk introducing problems because of modules running firmware that are not compatible or tested against one another.

If the integration level of the car is older than ~2015, it's absolutely worth doing.

Interesting thanks. So far I've only done the DME because the tuner wouldn't give me a stage 2 if I wasn't on the latest. Ill ask my Indy shop next time if they can do that for my next big servicing.

If you can find somebody with an ICOM B to lend out, you can do this yourself using ISTA/P. It'll do a complete upgrade of all modules. You do need to hook the car up to a power supply as it takes a few hours to do a complete update.
