May have found my M3

Hey guys, I was just about to order a 2012 M3 when I found a 2011 with the exact color / package that I want a few states away. The dealer in question isn't willing to set up a dealer trade, but they said are willing to sell me the car and ship it. The only problem with this is my current 335, I already had a trade-in deal in place with my current dealer and will now have to find another way to get rid of my car in a relatively short period of time. I would do carmax, but the closest one is about 90 miles away.

Any suggestions? Or do you guys think I should just hold off and order the 2012?

Road trip!

Get the same trade in deal from the dealer with the car you want and do a road trip. Swap cars and drive the M back.

Haha, yeah if it was a little closer Pointerman I definitely would. As it stands though, it's a little under 600 miles away.

Don't sell your car to CARMAX. You'll get better value trading it in at a dealer, or do what I did and sell it private party.

Carmax offered me $4k less than what I was able to sell it for private party. BMW dealership did $2k more than Carmax.

That is not always the case. I know of someone that sold a car to them a few months back for $1k less than private party KBB value.

600 miles is doable. You can drive that in one day. Stay overnight and drive back.

I'm driving 900 for PCD. Make it a "getting in touch" with your M3 moment. Good choice with the M3 over 335is too.

I agree, sounds like it's time for a road trip! Drive your 335 out and the M3 back...

Man, now you guys have me seriously thinking about a roadtrip, lol. It's either that or have the car shipped here and try to find a buyer for my current car in between.

600 miles is nothing. Go swap it and drive back. Trust me a road trip is the best way to get to know the new car. Do it.

You guys have convinced me, now it's just a matter of getting a day or two off work to do it.

One thing I was wondering though in case I can't make the trip - do you guys think it would be feasible to have the M3 shipped to me and then ship my car back to them in turn for the trade? I was just trying to think outside the box a little...

Thats possible but you will have to pay for shipping on both cars. I would just get all financial details done over the phone and go to the dealer just to sign paperwork and pick up the car. This way there are no surprises.

I would def. do the trek. I did 1500 miles from Dallas to Los Angeles and it was a great experience. Take a friend with you it makes for more of an exciting drive lol.
