Fibre was completed today. Those with e46M3s know how heavily we were involved in the carbon fibre process - with the same intentions for our e92. Since the new M3s come equipped with an optional 1x1 carbon roof, all pieces need to match in order to really make this project come alive.

Here's some teasers in the meantime:

e9X Seat trim covers in 1x1 weave:

e9X Seat Unlocking Receptacle in 1x1 weave:

e9X M3 Mirror Caps in 1x1 weave:

And of course, the holy grail - M3 intake:

The intake is simply beautiful and will make an already impressive underhood scenery even better.

The seat fibre pieces will not be installed on this vehicle, with more on this in our next journal entry. Those that have met us at the last couple of meets or have dropped by will know exactly why.

We have a big day planned for this beast tomorrow. More to come shortly.
how much for the holy grail? PM me if you can't post it.

Carbon Fibre Intake Manifold Intallation

The intake manifold is the first thing you see when opening the hood to look at the M3 engine. How can you make an already impressive underhood any better?

We have the answer. Today the Fibre intake was installed. These pictures are a quick overview of the installation process:

Before Shot

Airbox removal

Trim Removal

Intake Removal

S65 Engine without Intake Manifold

Intake Manifold Installation/Fitment

Overhead shot

Detailed shot of 1x1 weave

Completed installation

This is only the beginning - more will be added underhood as we have some extra time over the holidays.

BMW Performance Steering Wheel

Going a bit out of order as this was installed back in August, just never had the chance to post pictures.

One of my favorite mods to date is the BMW Performance Steering Wheel (PSW). The OEM BMW steering wheel is a bit thick for my taste, the PSW was right in the middle of a standard e9x wheel and the M3 with a combo Alcantara/Leather construction.

Features:

• Stopwatch
• Race computer with lap times, section times and 400m/ 1/4 mile race functions
• Display of lateral and longitudinal acceleration
• Temperature display
Diesel engine: water temperature
Petrol engine: Oil and water temperature
• Gear shift indicator (user adjustable)

Features are selectable via the integrated buttons underneath the alcantara in the 10 & 2-o'clock positions on the wheel. While I'm not a fan of the white stitching on the wheel, everything else seems to be right on track.

Oddly enough, BMW Does not mention the M3 as compatible for the upgrade, as deep into the install we may have found out why. The power and ground wires were removed from the M3 model's OBDII port, which powers the steering wheel - known as lead A1 & A2 on the wheel (Green/Brown & Brown).

With a multimeter, substitute leads were easily found and we were back in business.

Stock steering wheel removed, preparing for slip-ring exchanging

Floor covering removed to access OBDII port wiring

Stock Slip-ring removal

Steering Column with slip-ring removed

Comparison of slip ring underside - Stock vs PSW

Comparison of slip ring top side - Stock vs PSW

PSW installed, sans airbag

1/4 mile timer

H20/Oil Temperature

Completed install

Overall satisfaction is very high on this wheel, however we have a few ideas on how to make this wheel even better with the possibility of even adding more features to the LCD display.

Needless to say, this makes the driving experience even better. For those that have questions on operation or installation - please feel free to contact me directly.

Tom,

How's access to the back seat with Pole Positions? Can you still get in and out pretty easily? With sliders of course.

Not as bad as one might think. Obviously, seat sliders make the job easier.

We simply needed a switched +12V lead, ground went to chassis ground. Unfortunately, I can't recall the wire color at this time - but a multimeter will make easy access when installing.

PM coming shortly.

Same here - this will go perfect with the carbon roof.
