Go to page 6 and look at the Statement of Functional Expenses.

It gives you the break down of the 8.9 million dollars in expenses. The row titled "Direct Servies" is what actually was used to help the people in Africa. The rest of the expenses are operating and marketing expenses. 2.8 million/8.9 million = 31% of their expenses were actually used in Africa.

The site doesn't go into details.
The guy who made the video is playing the funny money game, they put everything they spend outside people's salaries and other misc costs into in program expenses category which to people who are not looking at the details as most people here did, would think 80% of the money is heading to Africa to help these kids. In reality only 31% actually did. The other money went to all kinds of other things like lobbing and paying for peoples travel as well as the cost to the guy to make this video. I saw elsewhere where the Guy from the video is attempting to justify all these other expenses directly help these kids. Depending on how you look at it you decide if it truly benefits the kids.

As much as the whole let set up bases on Africa and start a war sounds far fetch it is probably close to the true, come on why would the Government focus any attention on this guy in Africa when there is a bunch other other things they are worry about. Our government probably saw this as very convenient way to move troops there.

Hell our government started a war in Iraq over made up Mass Destruction Weapon just so they could establish a Military base there to keep a close eye on all the stupid things going on in the middle easy plus it a close jump off point to get to Afghanistan and Bin Laden. This guy who made this video could be actually being used as a catalyst to start something bigger.

Hmm I always though execs at non profit organizations got their salaries tax free. I could be mistaken though.

On another note, considering that they have 6million in the bank that 31% drops to 20%.

NPO's do not pay taxes on their income. But the employees do pay taxes on their salaries.

I really would like to know why they are holding so much cash. My guess is because they have an outrageous amount of expenses each year. But I could be wrong.

correct. Anyone taking a salary pays taxes just as if it were a for profit org.

Even though some of you may think this whole thing is dumb, it's still an awful thing going on and your jokes are downright callous.

It WAS an awful thing going on. Not to say it's not happening elsewhere in Africa, but the video makes it seem like it's currently going on in northern Uganda now, and it actually hasn't been like this for quite some time.

And all of this started probably about 30 years ago, but all of a sudden now it's such a big news story?

The jokes don't make light of the situation that happened, they make light of the fact that all of a sudden people are all up in arms over this, as if it hasn't been happening for three decades already...

Worlds first fucking problem, being in other peoples business...

Yes he is a bad man, and blah blah blah. If you go over there and try to do something, there will be huge issues.
