Bay Area Dyno Day Results - 04/11/15
We hosted a small dyno day today at DNR Performance. We dyno'd a total of 20 cars with almost half of them NA E9X cars. The dyno was reading low but we got some good results. All cars on 91 octane.
One chart is FBO Dinan Stroker, Highest FBO E9X M3 (Ess Tune) and Stock (2013 w/ 8k miles) The second chart is a combined best of all the e9x cars and a stock m4 for fun. Stock 2013 FBO S65 1M BPM FBO ESS FBO Dinan FBO Evolve Stock Exhaust w/ AA tune Dinan Stroker |

Wow Thanks For Posting Such A Great Sample sIze. I'm surprised e92 dinan fbo is that high. it looks like a fbo m3 is right at 360whp on this dyno. So looks like the f80 m4 puts down about 30whp more than a fbo e92 and probably 60whp more than stock. That's about 50 crank hp more Than fbo and 70 crank hp more than stock. Basically looks like a stock f80 isn't far off a dinan stroker power range. That's pretty crazy. Guess m4 isnt far off from a 500 crank hp car afterall. 475 bhp stock Isn't bad for oem. Love to see an ess tuned f80 on this dyno vs ess fbo e92. Should be about 100 whp difference for a tune only f80 v fbo e92
Nice numbers and consistency all around. Looks like beautiful cars and a lot of fun |

Thanks for the post! It's good to see realistic numbers. It's pretty consistent with my dyno numbers with 330 stock and 365 FBO w/BPM

Great results. Sorry I couldn't make it. For some reason, I was thinking it was next week, not this week.
Couple of comment: DNR dyno is pretty consistent with other dyno's I've used. I don't think it's a low reader. You definitely have one of the strongest stroker's I've seen on any dynojet with 91 octane. Fantastic results! Do you have the .DRF files? I'll be happy to put any/all of these in the Dyno Database. Just let me know and I'll work with you through PM and email. |

We will do another f8x / e9x day in a few weeks. I didn't expect such a high turnout for this. I only advertised it to a Facebook group and over 20 cars came out with 19 of them dynoing. |

Thanks for taking the time to post!
Take it from me. I love a linear power feeling in the e92. Stock f80 thankful maintains a very linear feeling evidenced by the graph (not technically linear but it holds power to redline) I tried ess stage 2 tune that makes same power as jb4 stage 2 (490) but it feels like crap. Unless you are doing 100mph runs maybe for absolute best time or races, the experience stinks from a experience and feel standpoint. Ess makes a "linear tune" which adds about 40whp but makes stock power up to 4500 or so and then it ramps up power and holds it flat to redline. That is perfect. You get about 450 whp with linear feeling. Above that bigger turbos are needed to maintain power up top but that means introducing lag. I think for an m3 experience, bmw made it possible to keep a very linear feeling by employing these small turbos. I finally understood what they did after driving these higher power maps that made lots of power but died at 6k rpms. It made me understand the 335 guys who despite thinking the made good power with jb4 in past, the shape of power curve sucked. I finally saw how a badly shaped power curve just doesn't feel good and huge props to f80 designers who really did give us a super linear feeling m3 given they had to go turbo. Thanks again for taking the time! |
