HANS

For those that are running a HANS which did you get and why? There is a handful of them and wanted to get some feedback.

I have necksgen and highly recommend it - http://www.necksgen.com/ ... it is very well made and slightly cheaper than hans.

I went with the Professional since its the lightest one. I have a bad back so anything I can do to reduce weight for the helmet and hans is very helpful for me personally.

I got the HANS sport. Does the job but I've heard others have more lateral head movement. It took me a weekend to get used to it.

I got the HANS Pro as well. I've had rotator cuff surgery twice on my right shoulder, so the less weight on it the better. The pro is feather light, and i find that especially in enduro racing, you don't really notice it on after a couple hours.

Dumb question cause i understand what a hans device is supposed to do safety wise, but is this more negative than positive on the track?

Can't comment on comfort since my next track day is about 2 weeks away, but it's pretty easy to get on and off. I also went with the pro version because of the weight factor. When I went from a cheap Bell helmet to my HJC SI-12, the lighter weight made an incredible difference (less fatigue). So decided to invest in a lighter HANS device based on my experience with a lighter helmet.

How do you like the quick clip disconnect? I've got the posts and find them easy enough to put on/off, but I hear good things about the quick clip.

They seem easy enough to remove. They disconnected right away the couple times I tested it. Both types came with my device and the guy at the shop recommended the quick clips.

There is an adjustment but that's not really a negative. The only bad thing is its a PIA if you are at a track with a blend line after a turn which forces you to really turn your head.

I sometimes have to disconnect the tethers on one side so I can turn my head enough to check for traffic at MSR Houston going CCW. I can sit there and play with my mirrors if I come a stop at the end of the pit lane but that makes you a target.

i have the hans 2 so little newer design and slightly lighter weight. im not understanding the weigh comments. the weight of your helmet might matter because its moving around with g's but the hans is on your shoulders and not really being supported by any muscle effort. unless your a stick man shouldnt matter.

If you mount those 5 panel wink mirrors, won't it give you enough panoramic view behind you so that you don't have to turn your head?

If and when I turn my car into a dedicated track car, I plan on putting on one.

Well the thing is, you won't really know unless you have enough seat time comparing both. But fine, I'll admit it. The visible CF weave won me over.

ah see the truth comes out. honestly i could have a midget on my shoulders its the helmet weight that i notice a change in. when i switched helmets my neck was strained every track day for a while.

I've had a HANS Pro with quick clip disconnect for two years now. I can't imagine using a neck collar again. My main helmet is a Stilo ST4 GT W Carbon with a Bell BR.1 backup. The quick clips are easy to get on and off and the Stilo is super light.

I went with an HANS Adjustable. I spoke with HMS and they advised me that some people find 20 degrees more comfortable in the E46 M3 as opposed to 30 degrees that is more typically recommended in a street car (or maybe it's the other way around, but either way).

So since I have dreams of making my car a dedicated track car at some point (running with Quick-Fit harnesses right now) I went with the Adjustable so that I can make it work with whatever car or seat I end up with.

R3 here, takes some getting used to but after that it's great. I went that route so I can use it with both 3pt and 5/6pt setups.

I've been thinking about that one...most for instructing. You never know with some of these students nowadays!

huh, works the other way too, once in a blue moon I ride with instructors, and you never know with some of these instructors nowadays!

Very true! Instructor qualifications vary widely between different DE orgs. Most of all, instructor training can be non-existent to very good.
