[Motortrend VIDEO] M4 VS Lexus RCF

Very interesting and fun review! I'd personally pick the RCF, but it's very interesting to see how despite the Huge difference in straight line speed, and the every other measured performance attribute, the actual lap time result was very provoking.

It also seems the RC-F was easier to drive. Notice how Randy didn't need to correct as often? I think the slight turbo lag and massive torque makes it difficult to put the power down as smoothly as a NA engine on a track.

Absolutely. And Randy is a very experienced x-pro racer, so that car is simply a hand full with all that torque at 1,800 rpms.

+1 to both. The RC-F seems very much like the e9x m3. Easy to drive at the limit and well planted.

The f8x m3/4 in every video you see shows how difficult it is to module and its a handful at the limit. If a pro, and a very good pro in Pobst needs to be making those kind adjustments, it says a lot. The fact that the RCF with a huge deficit in power to weight was nipping on the m4 also says a lot.

Even with that wonderful V-8 sound the RC-F front end is a deal breaker for me. Just fugly IMO.

I was just thinking earlier today how the e9x would do against the RC-F. I think I'll still go for the e9x M3 at the end of the day..and definitely m4 over RC-F.

Finally saw this car in person on Tuesday for the first time. Looked really cool next to my E92 M3, but the design didn't make my M3 look dated. The RCF was bright orange, so maybe the color made it not look as good. The interior was nice, but it seemed slightly cheap, and those are straight up race seats it's got. Looks like stock 19 inch Pilot super sports, are on tap. I'd definitely consider this car if I was looking, and DEFINTELY take it over the F82 M3, based on the way the V8 sounds, alone! Yeah.

I'd take the RC-F as well if I could drop out 500 pounds somehow.

There's the rub; Lexus builds heavy cars (as does Benz). It is 400 pounds heavier than an M4. Still like the RC F overall, though.

It is funny that they are also using electronic sound enhancement inside the car even with the 467 HP V-8!

The GTR is a porker, but became the #1 escape car for E9X M3 owners. But no, you're right, the lex is fat though.

I haven't seen too many favorable reviews of the RC F, especially when compared to its rivals M3, c63, ATS-V, etc

I think the lap times has more to do with the driver and limited time with the cars. With more time and new tires on both cars the M4 would be substantially faster around the track - it wasn't being driven at its limits where-as the Lexus was.

Even if the RCF was faster than the M4 I wouldn't touch it.

The M4 lost this race, lost to many of it's competitors, and even a 268hp entry level porsche. It's lack luster lap times is not something that's argued anymore.

I've see all those cars he listed every day. This is the first RC-F I've ever seen, and the ISF is another rare spotter.

The M4 had a better lap time, was faster 0-60, faster in the quarter and better braking distances.

The only thing the Lexus does better is make noise. Not exactly a performance standard.

Personally, I would buy the entry level Porsche over either one.....

A closer comparison would be with the e92 m3 being both V8s and the BMW would still be the better car

Don't know what video you were watching but the M4 didn't lose this race. Even if it did, that Lexus is one ugly bitch and that alone would keep me from buying it.
