Goodbye GT-R...hello m3

I'm in search of a manual transmission e92 m3 coupe, but need some mod advice before I buy. I've done some searches for model changes from 2008-2011, bit it doesn't appear as though there have been any significant ones. Am I correct?

I had an e36 m3 coupe 10-years ago and had an active autoworker exhaust and h&r springs in it. I will be doing the exact same thing to the e92 m3...with these mods considered, does it matter which year (2008-2011) I buy?

the 09s and up have the updated navi, which is defly worth getting over the older one, the 10,11 were offered with zcp which came with the different wheels, id stay with an 09 and up just due to the navi, but like everyone else, why are you getting rid of the gtr

I moded my GTR too heavily to be a daily driver (~700 hp) and the complete focus on power left me with a car that was 'holy-shit' fast, but was so with many comprimises. It was all worth it for a while, but eventually, the cons started to outweigh the pros.

At that point i was left looking for a car that does both things pretty well and to me, that's the e92 m3.

I never thought i'd do this, but if you daily drove my GTR for long enough, perhaps you'd eventually understand. The GTR is one of the best cars I've ever owned and the right mods can easily make it a 10.5 car. But...like everything else, it comes at a daily usability.

I know what you are saying about daily driveability, I had a 811rwhp 03 Cobra, and although it was quite the adrenaline rush on the highway, a daily driver it was not.

Just seems strange, most folks go from the M3 to the GT-R, not the other way around. But hey, you gotta do what makes you happy. Good luck with the search.

Anyone have any advice/answers to my OP? I was told by someone that i should stay away from a certain year/option/package because I intend to lower it. True?

The competition package on the '11s would be redundant if you plan to lower it and stiffen the springs as it has already been done so. Also, it is easier to lower non EDC cars. Otherwise the cars remain the same year after year.
Now regarding going from the GTR thing to an M3, I sold my M5 to get into the M3 and I've yet to get over the disappointment of the "lack" of power. Be careful what you wish for....

ZCP on MY 11's comes slightly lowered, fitted with 359 wheels & MDM supposed to be not as intrusive. IMO it's not lowered nearly enough, too many M3's have the same 359's & MDM in MY 10 still allows the ass end to slip & wheels to spin just a little. If your going to lower it & get new wheels it's probably not worth getting ZCP in MY11.

From a start, it may feel like just about everything is but things quickly change once you hit above 5K, at which point you look like a schmuck in the city anyways to those who don't understand this car. Its high revving nature is not the ideal for city driving.

Good move. I like the the overall package on the M3. I'm not a fan of Japanese styling although the Nissan is a fast booger. I think the only changes on the M3 have been the NAV and LCI update which was the LED tail light upgrade. I think that was on the 2011 models, not positive. I think no matter what year, if you find a clean MT M3 you can't go wrong. Good luck!

I pretty much feels faster at any speed. On the highway, you can't deny the crushing power of 505 hp compared to the high revving M3. Even from the start, the M5's torque makes it feel noticeably faster. On the track though, it felt like a fat pig on steroids.

I must admit that from 0-2500 rpm the M3 doesn't feel very quick. But after that it's pretty nice. I just thought that the weight of the M5 might minimize the 80hp differential. Almost went with a M6, but the M5 isn't a looker imo.

Sounds familiar. I sold by Porsche 996TT built to 800 hp. It was very fast, but not too practical for every day use. The M3 is a much better all around car; you'll love it.

What year is your m3? Do you have a manual m3 pr dct? If you have dct...how does it compare to the dct in your gtr?
