Post Final E92/E90 M3 Production Numbers and DCT/MT Take Rates (NA and Worldwide)

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Now that the E90 and E92 M3 have stopped production, and since a lot of people were asking for the DCT/6spd breakdown, so here it is.

E93 LCI M3 is still in production, so no data yet. Looking at the data, 6spd in the M3/M4 will be dead or US/Canada only option soon.

Dare I say there was some bias at the start of production of the M3 towards the 6MT? There was a 3 month delay for DCT and for an E90 build. At least that's what I was told when I placed my order in Feb '08....otherwise I'd own an E90 DCT instead of an E92 6MT!!

Not that this would account for the vast majority of 6MT sales...

Just a thought!

That is correct. I bought a very lightly used 6mt e90 from a gentleman that bought the same exact spec car, color and all to get the dct.

The post-LCI take rate of the manual in North America vs. the rest of the world is pretty wild...

DCT : 6MT
NA: ~2:1
RoW: 10:1 to 20:1!

The sour aftertaste of the SMG kept many away from the DCT at the beginning, I think. Once it proved robust (and fantastic), sales followed.

I'll always have at least one true manual in the stable, get too much enjoyment from it, but I look forward to owning a car with one of these great new dual-clutch systems (DCT, PDK, DSG) before long.

find that interseting also. we are the only ones hanging on to the manual which seems odd as the other side of the pond seems to be more enthusiastic about cars in general.

Most other country can't get the manual because it is not offered.

I still think it pretty healthy number of manual users in the country.

Add on top of the delay of the DCT, IIRC, most of the reviews of the M3 were with DCT and they were extremely positive of the DCT vs. the SMG from the E46 (and how bad it was on the M5) so I'm thinking the media falling in love with the DCT also contributed to that as well.

Thank you for posting this up! I'd like to know the year to year breakdown numbers as well if that data is available please.

I wonder how many E90 ZCP 6MTs were brought into the US? Obviously I'm hoping the numbers are low to help me sell my E90...

IMO, current generation M3s 6MT was not the best for sure.
DCT however was refined over time (software updates etc.) and people did notice!

Actually i was thinking the REAL enthusiasts already bought their M3 by the time LCI rolled around so that's why there were a lot less 6MT sales

SAVE THE STICK!

Nearly 50% of E93s manual! What's that about convertibles being a non-enthusiast cars?

By LCI, BMW had most of the kinks out of the DCT software. That's my theory.

Yeah, so anyone wanting "the first one in town" got a manual by default.

Will be interesting to see the splits on the first year of the new M3/4.

Yes and we had to have the first one in town....if I was to order a new one it would be individual but still a manual...

Agreed. In Europe, you'll rent you a manual car, which would NEVER happen here for a regular rental car.
