The current v8 just drinks too much and wouldn't make my trafficy commute much fun.
I got a friend with a E46 m3 that is debating about picking up a current gen m3 or waiting and he did mention that the horrible gas mileage is the biggest reason for him to wait. But he also likes the thought of getting the last great NA bmw engine.

I love the way the way E9x sounds, that gnarly yet refined growl of the V8 epitomizes what M power is all about. I wonder what the tri turbo will sound like in comparison?

well i don't think it will be a concern for an M3 driver. As my current '11 335i is doing 19 mpg compared to M3's 16.7 mpg. And that doesn't let me down for not switching to an 13' M3. good news! Save a bit on the piano trim and residual value!

If it helps, my gas mileage has steadily gotten better as the car has broken in. The mileage is never gonna be stellar but I'm ok where I'm at.

Good luck BMW, I hope this all works out and that next gen car better be damn good. Excuse me, great.

If you have DCT, you can easily pull 19 mpg with a city/highway mix (mostly city). As I do.

I have also gotten better mpg since hitting 8.5k on the odo.

You want to play, you gotta pay.

Sorry, i did not get the 2012 LCI headlights question. Does the 2013 M3 have the new style (f30 style) headlights or no?

Thanks!

No. The headlights will not be changed for 2013.

Looks like no changes to MY2013. Could BMW implement any changes for MY2013.5? When would production of MY2013.5 start?

Sure. I would bet that special editions would come out towards the end in fact.

But I'm almost certain it'll be more of the same: special paint, maybe some individual stitching, etc. - that kind of (cosmetic) stuff.

Highly doubt any significant performance-related changes. For North America that is.

No one has a clue.

Why do people dislike the turbo m3? Does the motor have a shorter life?

There is no turbo M3 yet. :P

But I suspect some people are anti-FI because they prefer the smoothness (and the sound) of an NA engine.

What else can one say and yes the new generation M3/M4 for 2014 will be fantastic only it will not be a V8
And it will have that awful 3 series interior with the nav screen on top of the dash. No place for my radar detector to sit.

While I do agree that in a perfect world one would pay the same amount of money for the same thing this year as they did last year. There is a little mathematical equation called inflation.
Also, sadly, people equate $$$ with prestige and or value. Which is not always the case, this case certainly being the exception. BMW is also well aware that their brand is considered a luxury vehicle in North America and will fall in suit with this mentality by keeping prices reflective as such.

It is disappointing that BMW is not going to add something special to the final year of this great car. IMO the best value are the 2010 and 2011's with low miles and well-maintained since someone already paid for most of the depreciation. The sad thing about those who are buying the 13' is that as soon as you own it the new M3 comes out and cause a major drop in the value of your car you just got. And of course the press and everyone else will be hyping the new M3 like it's the best thing since sliced bread. Those who say they prefer the current car will have their resolve tested big time.

Agreed on the disappointment, disagreed on the severe drop in value when the F8x M3 comes out. I will admit, it'll drop in value a bit, but I don't think it'll be as bad as you/others are saying due to the fact that the 2013 E9x M3 will be the last of the NA M3's... that will make it a collector's item.

Well, not everyone buys cars with resell value in mind. I plan to keep my '13. I've had my '03 benz since '02, going on 10 years, and will keep it til it die. I'll appreciate the engine and clean lines of the current gen M3 for years to come.
