I coded it myself with the seller's instructions.

The kit comes with a cable so I'm assuming they could remotely code it for you. This mod, in theory, is pretty easy however if you don't have access to a laptop to code with and time to piddle I'd recommend taking it to an installer. It took me about a month to get mine going due to parts swapping and shipping from Europe. Hopefully an installer would have spares on hand if you were to get a bad harness like me.

Assuming that cutting the rear trunk lid is not an issue, can anyone advise what OEM parts and coding are required to achieve the integration Marius showed?

I really like the dynamic grid lines as this is about as "OEM" as it can get given it was not an OEM option.

Thank you.

No parts other than what's already included is needed. Coding is required after installation in order for the vehicle to recognize the camera.

Oem module vs emulator

Thanks Tom, Marius mentioned using some OEM parts which included an actual oem module rather than an emulator as included in the bimmertech package.

I would like to understand the difference in cost for going this route as it provides full grid line capability versus the bimmertech solution.

I don't mind a little extra elbow grease to mount the camera if the finished install is closer to "oem" (at least for a different bmw model as the e90 never had the camera). Are we talking an extra $50 to get the dynamic grid lines? Or $500?

Perhaps I can get bimmertech to provide the install along with the actual oem module including dynamic grid lines.

Thank you.

I used BimmerTech on my '11 E92 and it was completely plugnplay. No cutting of any kind needed.

Apex lines are a no-cost option on the camera kit.

Love the Bimmertech kit. After installing dozens of these as their So-Cal dealer, it's probably the best retrofit kit out there.

Jason, If you will not be able to find used parts (which werent available when I did this retrofit), OEM solution is going to cost you over $1000. You will need a camera (from X series or F series), X1 backup camera module, X1 PDC module, harness and trunk lid opener (F series).

Marius,

Thank you, this is exactly the information I was after. An extra $500 for the dynamic grid lines and overlay equipment plus time to source parts plus coding.

The plug and play bimmertech appears to be a good balance of functionality and cost.

I'll have to wait to get those extra features in a 435i someday

Your modification is a work of art though, nice job!

Hi,

Can you use this camera emulator together with a CIC retrofit emulator.... or will they interfere with each other?

Cheers

Not a hard install physically...

The camera/handle install is pretty easy, pulling the signal/power cable through the trunk boot at the base was a little tough but not too bad. There's a male/female connector junction just below the trunk opening so you can run the signal/power extension from there(under the trunk side panel, covers the wheel well) into the cabin. I ran my wire under the passenger rear seat and then down the passenger door molding, up and behind the glovebox and then into the console area behind the head unit where it plugs into.

Hardest part for me was finding space for all the jumper harnesses and power relay that have to fit behind the head unit. BMW does not leave any spare room in the dash like on other cars I've owned.

If you retrofitted your CIC with an emulator, you will need a new emulator.
The emulator can handle Nav, Voice, PDC, and Camera. Anytime you add a new feature that requires the emulator, you will need a different set.

Some of the vendors here have a trade-in option, you can contact whoever you bought it from.

HPC3 is spot on. I have done this a few times to my car. The hardest part for me was to feed the wiring front the trunk boot to the trunk. Thankfully it's not hard technical-wise, it just requires some time. Once inside the car, I took out my seats in my M3 because I was doing something already. In my 335, I just tuck the wiring between cervices and it was clean!

Yeah and then the head-unit, there's not much room to work back there but it's not bad.

Same for me. I purchased this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to fish the wire through the boot. hpc3 is right, there's very little room to stuff the wiring harness behind the head unit. Good luck.

Dynamic Parking Lines?

Hi guys and gals. First time posting as a new owner of a '11 E90 M3 as of yesterday. Compared to my old 3 series, the amount of electronics is almost daunting. On my drive home, I had a heck of a time trying to figure out how to turn off the music (some hip hop music from the previous owner which I like, but I wanted to focus on the engine sounds on my first drive) and turning off the navigation. But I figured it out and I digress....

Some poster above mentioned that the dynamic parking lines (DPL) is close to OEM as you can get. But any thoughts on having the DPLs? Any pros and cons (other than the benjamin and a half extra charge)? I don't have any parking sensors on my m3.

So I just bought this unit from BimmerTech and opted for the dynamic parking lines.

Should I post a review here or a separate post?

I'm interested. Dynamic parking lines huh? I didn't get any lines with mine which is okay considering the size of the screen. Gives me a clear view.

Just make a new post.

I've had this setup with the parking lines for awhile now and use it daily at work due to the angle my parking space is in our garage and then at home as I back into my garage. Works great!

Reviews have been done in other threads.

Hmmm couldn't find any threads on the dynamic lines. Plenty of them with just the lines but not ones that move with the steering wheel

My bad, looks like most are the straight lines. I love the cam and the DPL's. Have you done the install yet?

Nope. Just ordered it so it'll be here next week sometime. They're apparently shipping from overseas but so far communication with him has been spot on.
