I wouldn't go so far as saying that but after seeing your car damaged like that, I'm sure the thought crossed your mind.

Really sucks man. Hope it all works out well for you.

BTW

one advise, phone camera. always take a pic of each car parked on both sides of your M3 when you leave it some place. make sure you get the plate number of both cars. Also, print some cards that say that if they hit your car, you will kill them, kill their families, and kill their dog. If they didn't have a dog, you will kill their neighbor's dog and leave the cards on their windshield.

The more we try to avoid these incidents, the more they are attracted to us. Sorry to hear. Hopefully the damage is covered under your insurance.

I know its kinda paranoid, but I've meorized plates before in situations where I am forced to park in a risky fashion, especially when its near an SUV, pickup or minivan. Never had to use it, but I figure its worth the minute to check and make a mental note.
When I had my e46 M3, I religiously took a picture of the license plate of each car that was beside me when I parked. Not foolproof, but certainly its something, especially if there is damage that may have left a mark on the offending vehicle. Being able to place someone's vehicle beside yours if you were to make a complaint could come in handy.

Thoughts?

Thanks all for commiserating with me. Pics would be a let-down I'm afraid as I was successful in manuevering the bumper back nearly into position visually...it just looks a little off. The bumper appears to be like held together with tab hooks on the body and slotted tabs on the bumper..it reminded me of a model car. The slotted tabs on the drivers side and left rear on the bumper are all ripped out. 1st body shop estimated it at about $1500. Luckily no metal involved at all...other than the bumper being pulled off on one side, there's hardly even a mark on it to show the contact...just a slight rub.

One problem is that most people don't even realize they've delivered a door ding.

And the rest that do realize it drive off because 1) they realized that they hit a nice car and don't want to pay or 2) don't think that a door ding is a big deal because its the 650th time they've done it on their car already.
