$17000 estimate for rod bearings??!?

Bmw dealership just gave me a quote for $17k to do bearings. I just bought this car and have been trying to do researxh on this and i was expecting $3k estimate. Surely this cant be right? She used a bill from a 2013 and made an adjustment. The going rate is still around $3k no?

Obviously, something is not right there. You need to discuss the quote with the Service Manager to confirm their price quote and how they arrived at that number. That is more like shortblock replacement pricing. A BMW dealership will definitely charge the most for the repair, but 17k is not even worth talking about.

I highly suggest finding a specialty BMW shop in your area to give you a quote. I see you are in "GA" so if you are in/around Atlanta, Id recommend calling A&A Performance, Harrison Motorsports, or Bimmers and see what they quote you.

That’s how they say they don’t want the work without explicitly saying so. Moonshot bid.

I have no idea but i have considered doing it myself i just dont have a lift. I replaced a trans in my old cummins and it took me about a month. It was a nightmare. Of course id never been in a trans before but ive also never been that deep in an engine either. I dont even want to waste my time with them trying to find out where they came up with that. Ill just look elsewhere. I am about 1-1/12 hours from atl. Its an option though i would like something closer.

Yes, totally legit. The BMW dealership's new rod bearings come packaged in a low mileage S65.

$3,000 to $3,500 is the average price (including parts & labor) at most BMW specialist shops across US for rod bearing service

Don’t take it to the dealer.

They either thought the bearings had already failed, or gave you what we in the construction world call an "F U number"

In general, with cars like these, better to go to an independent shop anyways.

Wasn't sure where you were going with the first half of that sentence...

I paid around 2K USD but I’m not in USA still 17K is an absolute ripoff… Ask around your area.. there must be some BMW specialists who can do this for you.
