Hi, sorry to hear the bad news, but good that you managed to track the idiot down. Sounds crazy.

Ok, are you looking to just replace the bumper, or maybe add a diffuser?

My expectation is you will initially have to get an estimate from a body shop and the insurance adjuster regarding the cost to get the car back to stock. Then you can price out the cost if you use 'after market' parts. The insurance will only cover the cost to return stock and any additional amount would need to be covered by you.

The bodyshop may have to separate the billing if the insurance company doesn't give you a check (ie they pay the bill directly).

there are "special" body shops in rowland (i see ur in cali, if SD stands for SanDiego, and not South Dakota ) that help you do this....you tell them what aftermkt parts u want and they write it all up to make it look like stock to the adjuster so u dont even pay a penny out of pocket for the difference in price. I dont know their exact procedure, but once i got into a collision years ago, had alot of front end damage and some minor engine damage, but I left with a body kit and supercharger...all paid for by insurance. i got my new mods for free, the body shop people got paid...we were all happy

Posting about insurance fraud on a public website? Not the best idea.

I don't understand how he rear ended you twice. It sounds like he was trying to run you off the road. If that is the case, I would think you may have grounds for a suit against the other driver.

That's what I thought too.

his insurance company is going to cut you a check... his insurance company will send one of their adjusters to see the damage and to price the amount,- your job is to have the adjuster see your car at BMW Dealer. Tell the dealer you want an invoice-appraisal for repairs, make sure the adjuster gets or sees that invoice!!! Before coming over to see the car, adjuster will call you to make an appointment and will ask you where the car is,- make sure to tell him the car is at BMW Dealer and he can see it there.

It's gonna be way more than 3g. Some 18 year old rear ended me less than a month after I got my m3, and my exhaust was slightly bent too. I wanted an aftermarket exhaust so I told my insurance company that I wanted a check just for the exhaust and authorized the body shop to fix everything else. I ended up receiving a check worth $6500 just for the exhaust.

You have to stand up to insurance companies- they are just looking to minimize expense and close the case.

The purpose of insurance is to indemnify your loss- make you whole again- return you to where you were before the accident.

May be time to seek out a lawyer if you are not getting the desired results.......

First sorry to hear about your misfortune. Glad you got his plates and the cops seal with him. I would not recommend to use aftermarket parts, you will have problems selling this car if some joe blow repairs it with after market parts. It will be recorded as having been in an accident and the next buyer will ask questions you wont be able to answer.

So, my recommendation would be get it fixed proper, he and you do have insurance. Hold onto the documentation the next buyer will want to see them.
