Surprise! Another angry Hawaiian in the line up. I love that Hawaiians are all about "respect" in the water, but show none to anyone who visit their home breaks. God forbid you guys actually share a wave here and there.

Wasn't expecting surfing to pop up in this thread...

Sincerely
Mr Haole

Mr. Haole. Yeah Hawaiian surf breaks are as competitive as any track day or sport in general. Everyone is going for the same wave all the time. And locals can easily spot visiting surfers. We dont apologize for it, and its no different and sometimes worse in other places. San Francisco, South Africa and Australia are every bit as bad. Me and my GF have driven down to San Diego several times and I have surfed Blacks and around there. Was that you that dropped in on me that day?

Agreed that Australia is just as bad as Hawaii. The crowds there are just ridiculous. Aussies get pretty fired up too. Never been to South Africa. I find California to be a hell of a lot mellower than Hawaii when it comes to competition at breaks though. What I'm referring to isn't the competition though... it's the bad Hawaiian attitude. You know what I'm talking about too... guys yelling at each other and ruining the nice time for everyone, pretending they own the place because they're a gigantic Samoan looking dude that nobody is going to pick a fight with. Lame. I haven't been targeted personally, but know lots of people who have been completely unnecessarily. It seems to be a constant occurence anytime I surf there.

There is localism everywhere and it is understandable to a certain extent. For some reason Hawaiians seem to take pride in bashing any visitor in the water though. When I see guys barking at kids in Waikiki on rented boards I'm pretty astonished. It just reeks of ignorance and is a trashy way to live life. It must be that Aloha spirit! Maybe that isn't you, but it sure seems so from your previous comment.

My comment was half joking really when you think about it. What you say is true. Most times the big Samoans - Hawaiians arent very good surfers anyway and use their size to their advantage. Im a Haole (Caucasian) too, but I lived there my whole life so everybody knows me. One other thing, if your a good surfer and not endangering anyone you get accepted alot faster. A surfboard in big surf is basically a lethal weapon in the hands of a junk or inexperienced surfer. I cant wait to ship my M3 back there so I can get to the surf faster. Im sure there are other surfers on this forum. Let yourselves be known!

Which reminds me... has anyone found any cool easter eggs in iDrive, or are the Germans too boring for that?
