As for being cold ... well it all depends where you will go ... they did and still do build some real nice American cars including engines up here.

I don't care where my things are made, as long as they work, and work well. Of course I'd like to know that the people making them are paid a good living wage, but I don't have time to research everything I buy. As for the quality of Chinese-assembled BMW engines...I highly doubt BMW is planning on just handing over the manufacturing process to the Chinese, with the possibility that it could result in poor quality. BMW has worked to ensure that their cars are made to incredibly high standards, and they would ensure that anyone (in any country, even the good old USA) held those same standards. I don't think BMW wants to be associated on the same level as a crappy Chinese car company any more than they want to be considered on the same level as GM. (Don't get me wrong: GM has made some good strides lately, but they're still nowhere close to BMW...having owned two relatively expensive American cars before my current M3.) |

The worst part about moving manufacturing is that the savings go straight into the pockets of the executives. The current employees get laid off. Consumers see zero savings. The product prices continue to rise. I know this type of activity very well.
BMW is posting record profits. Why move manufacturing? |
