This guy did my tint abd he's going to do my clear bra. You can probably find a similar service anywhere there's a track, http://www.tearoffguys.com/.
They do tear off windsheild protection for road racers and he said he will do the M.

is a clear bra really essential...i have owned many cars, and never thought about it.
my cars all look immaculate still, however, the bmw, seems more sensitive, every time i open the door, i notice new scratches and chips, etc....
does a clear bra show, and what all area can it protect?

Update. Bad news.

Dealer would not replace glass on their dime. SA and Service Manager looked at it and denied it. I had the local BMW field rep also look at it and it was still denied. They said the cause was environmental. Well no shit, I kept trying to tell them there was more wear on this windshield than the one on my E36 M3 ast 150k miles...They told me glass is like tires - simply not covered under the 4/50 plan. Of course very sarcastically I asked them what the other exceptions are for the "bumper to bumber" coverage is...

I am having it replaced today under insurance, my insurance has a nice $100 glass deductible with no harm to your rates and good standing. If you find the optics unbearable from the damage (as I obviously have) check with your insurance as to you glass deductible.

6 weeks after owning the car I got a 1/2" divot in my windshield.. saw the pebble like it was in slow motion coming off an 18 wheeler too.. FAAAAAK!

It's in my field of vision and bad enough that insurance will prolly take care of it..

Expensive. The guys who did my install mentioned about $1k with parts and labor. One reason for the high price is because of the built in rair sensor.

Same here. Cleaning up my car after the winter months, I have a thousand small dings all over my windshield. Hard to see in the direct sun. I'll bug my SA about it, but I doubt they'll give me a new one. $100 insurance deductible it will be, however you will not get OEM glass.

Just happened to check this thread out. Something must be up with these M3 windshields. I do not know if its the perfect angle for dings or what. My last car, a Z4 that I owned in Germany, I drove about as hard and fast as you could. Granted it was Germany, and the roads are a thousand times better over there, I still remember hearing many a rock hit the windshield, and I even hit a brid once. Not a scratch or mark to be seen. I would drive 100mph to work on a back country road and 120 average on the no limit sections of the autobahn. In fact I regularly hit its electric limit of 149 on the dead straight road that goes to Prague.

However after only owning my M3 for 3000 miles, half of which were in Germany, I had already noticed two very small 1mm chips. Called the dealer telling them I thought maybe my windshiled was defective to be so easily chipped and they told me what I've seen in many of the posts above - it's not covered under any circumstance.

Maybe this issue should be brought up to BMWCCA?

I thnk its BMW windshields in general. Our X5 has about 11000km on it - I picked it up Jan 11 and it needs a windsheild already. The kids think all the sparkles from the light reflecting off of all the chips looks neat. Me not so much.

The M was purchased in early October and only has about 7500km on it and I am super careful about not following too close inthe winter - I am so anal that I stay off the freeways and take surface roads to avoid rocks, but it also looks like crap as well.

The windshields are just very soft. I've never had this issue in any other brand. Though an old bed wetter busted our Sequioa's windshield on the delivery drive home by cutting me off . The car had less than 30km on it when it happened.

The freeways do terrible things to the front of the car, and there is no avoiding it.

I've had to replace my windshield already at 2k miles, but I certainly did not care to pay for OEM glass from the dealer - why would someone want the same glass if it was so prone to pits, chips and cracks?

Add me to the list that feel the windshield is more delicate than any other car I've owned. My Honda/Acura cars seem to have been much more durable, while the M3's got tiny chips almost right away!!

Haha this thread is about 3yrs running now. Anyhow, I couldn't help but to add replacing my windshield on my e46M seemed like a annual winter event for me. Mind you, I rarely even drove it in the winter. I'm hoping I have better luck with the e92.

Yep, my M3 has the crappiest windshield I've ever had. Have a ton of chips already, but nothing too deep to warrant replacement yet. But at only 7K miles, even if it doesn't crack, I'll probably have to replace the POS at less than 20K miles tops or I won't be able to see crap. And no, I don't plan to use an OEM windshield ever again either.

i feel cheated .. after spending so much on a premium car .. i get a crappy windshield... so what are good non-OEM options that also retain the rain sensor?

I first noticed mine, driving at night, light hit it just right...and intially, I thought one of my microfiber towels had left a buncha of fuzzy fiber pieces on the windshiled. That's what it looked like.
But under closer inspection I realized they were actually tiny little pits in the glass.

You need this!:

http://www.clearplex.com/windshield-...c-vehicles.php

I have this on my M and it has saved my windshield from countless amounts of chips, nicks, and scratchs. I learned my lesson from my 335i. When I turned that thing in the windshield was jacked up!

Anyway, this clearplex stuff is thurmely heated to the outside of your windshield. Not allot of places offer it but if you can find it then I definitely think it is worth the investment. Cost me around 100 for it.
