Job Market - GA - Eng.

Can anyone shed some light on the job market in the southeast (GA)? Opinions...

I've been working overseas for years and I'm quite out of touch with the market. According to the news everything is gloom and doom and I would be insane to quit a job right now and relocate to GA. Is it that bad? The majority of my contacts are working; however I know of (2) Engineers in GA that are out of work and have been for well over a year. I don't know if they are being selective on opportunity/$ or things are really that tough.

Any inputs would be appreciated.

My background is in Industrial/Manufacturing, but I have been working in proposals/project controls for the last (7) years. I'm trying to get a feel for the market, any inputs are appreciated.

What part of the state?

As you may be aware, Atlanta is not a haven for manufacturing. But there are many integration companies in the area. If looking to be at a manufacturer, you would have to look elsehwere in the state but there are many good locations.

To get a better idea, what types of manufacturing companies have you worked with? In other words, has most of it been in discrete manufacturing or process or a mix of both?

Just FYI, we are a manufacturers representative for industrial instrumentation and control systems in the southeast. I have been in this industry for over twenty years now and have some insight in this region.

I worked in the Lawrenceville area with a discrete manufacturer producing high volume injection molded parts for the auto industry, primarily aftermarket but some OEM. The operation was labor intensive therefore we had a strong IE staff to try and make the operation as efficient as possible. I'm not necessarily focusing on manufacturing; however I might find more opportunities compared to project controls. Thanks for the link, FLWSE looks like a very diverse organization with multiple product lines.

Thanks

I have a good idea who that might be. I suspect the company name started with an L and ended with a d?

If so, been over there numerous times.
