BMW Working on a High Performance M3 or GT4 Production Car?
Also as reported on M3post Homepage.
UPDATED with VIDEO! -- http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=312477 (thanks to Advevo for originally finding this post!) With the E46 M3 CSL, people have been given a look into what BMW could do when it turned its direction towards lightweight and efficiency over the base M3. With the introduction of the E92, many of you may remember all the buzz and talk about a possible E92M3 CSL. Remember the red test car? BMW a year later shot down those rumors of a CSL and ruled the car out. However, today MotorAuthority has put up these new pictures of a seemingly stripped down M3, wearing racing gear and blasting around the ring. As they point out, BMW has suggested that they would put a street version of the GT4 into production and this could be that very car, which would in effect be a CSL. Of special interest is the fact that this car is said to be using KERS (regenerative braking systems)!. Visit MotorAuthority to see their writeup and the full set of pictures. Great shots! As far as I know, BMW asked some current owners in Germany if they'd buy such a street version of the M3 GT4. Asking price? It's said to be around 120.000 €.
Best regards, south

I want this car but i'm not sure I want it 120.000E much. But I'd bet there is a market for this car at that price if it really is going to just be a homologated race car, then it could be a bargain

The new-style CSL wheels in this prototype and in this week 1-Series mule photos tells me that indeed a double CSL attack is coming soon...

It will probably never show up in the US (except maybe g*****rket) even if they do make it. Bummer . But I bet it could put up a good time on the 'Ring for bragging rights!
P.S. That's a novel way of mounting the splitter to the front bumper.

Great news for M fans, even if the US doesn't see it. Curious as to what brake upgrades the car will get, rotors and rear calipers look unchanged.

I'm hoping these new "CSL's" will do what the e46 M3 CSL did to many already present M3's in the US... Making that badass full body kit widely available (In knockoff and OEM form)! As well as many new ideas and products for weight savings.
I would love some new suspension/interior bits in me 1er.

This car is desperately needed. More than anything else especially in the wake of X5 M X6 M 3 ton boring tanks with M badges on. Puhhllleease BMW bring this car if you want to keep me loyal.
Imagine: 4.0 Liter V8 450 HP 320 ft-lbs of torque@6000 rpm 8800 rpm rev limit 3150 - 3200 lbs curb weight 0 - 60 in 3.9 seconds flat 1/4 mile in 11.8@118 mph Over 1g lateral acceleration Nurburgring laptimes of 7:3x Now that is what I call a true CSL.

I'll take the front lip. They can keep the $100,000 pricetag.
If it's going to cost that much I would get a used GT3.

I'd be surprised if BMW just wants to make sure they can be ready to fend off and beat and RS5/4 attack in the near future.
I hope they step it up and do it, so I can buy all the parts later too |
