Send to Car Option on Google Maps Gone?

Hey guys,

I knew this would disappear if placed in the off-topic section and since it deals with a GREAT feature of the '09 and later iDrives I figured I would put this here. For some reason the "send to" option in Google maps is no longer. Just up and disappeared for some reason.

Anyone know what the hell is going on?

Cheers,
e46e92

I remember reading last week that Google said they were getting rid of something like over a dozen offerings that had a low volume of users. Wouldn't surprise me if this is one of the ones going away unfortunately.

Send to maps sometimes goes offline for updates or downtime every now and then, but it's definitely still around.

"Send to Car" is now in two pop up screens in the Google Maps Page:

Either:

- Place mouse pointer over the balloon of the location address in the map and a pop up screen will show. Select More and then Send.

- Click the Link box (with a link icon) located under the main address entry box on the top left of the page. A pop up screen will show, click Send.

Huh? How do I send a map location from Google maps to my car?? I didn't know this feature existed. I just tried this on Google maps but it requires a BMW assist account name. How do I find this out? I feel like such a n00b!

The first one didn't work for me but the second one did. I use this fearture from time to time. One thing odd about it though is that I have to put my e-maill address in in caps or it doesn't send the map to the car. Says it did but it doesn't. (I got this tip from BMW assist.)

You are quite right, I did not realize it. I'm still to new to the iDrive (have it one week now) and need to read up on it.

At least you get it. If you purchase overseas and it is an American spec car, this feature is disabled... By the time I get back to the states, Google will have deleted it. Great.

There is no need to input your e-mail address in all caps unless you really want to; the key to getting it to work is not to populate the notes section.

For example, you are trying to get directions to location “A”, follow the steps above and input "test" in the notes section, then select send etc. The information won't be available until you send another set of directions "B", without any information in the notes section. I hope I didn't confuse you. Good luck.

If it is not working even after confirming the same email address is used for BMW Assist, you may have an iDrive problem. My car had to have software completely reinstalled (takes several hours, apparently) to get this working. This after the master mechanic did a lot of back and forth w BMW Assist techs.

The one time I used it so far, it seemed like the Nav in the BMW used it's own directions, didn't use the route I had plotted in google maps, just picked up the destinatin. Will have to experiment more.

I don't have any issues with "Notes" when I send one address or multiple.

I have seen this. It can be slow or quick without explanation. I try to send my stuff out in advance just in case I need the buffer.

Very good. Why is this any different for cars with Assist? I don't know of any way to send destination to car with an iOS device (i.e. not via a standard browser).

Google Maps via iOS Safari doesn't have the Send to Vehicle feature
