What do you mean about non-charcoal filter? Explain to us non east coaster with pissy gas.

If you guys decide to run meth on a $$$$ engine like this, you best be changing the oil very frequently.

Can you explain that?

As long as you get the engine up to temp, it should cook off any meth in the fuel. I would also expect the increased octane to decrease knock, which should decrease wear.

Plus, we are not talking about running meth in the fuel system, this is injected into the intake. He is also only spraying it at specific throttle openings, so it isn't going to be blowing by at idle, as an example.

Because methanol is corrosive. I was too afraid to run it on my STi, and on that car I could get a totally built block replaced for $5k. I don't wanna mess with putting that crap in my $20,000 S65 engine.

Not that it matters, I'll clearly be a minority when it comes to this standpoint. People will justify anything if it makes power. But I'm not risking my warranty and engine longevity over 20hp. Screw that, if i wanted a 500+hp car I would've gotten a GT500.

+1

Methanol is corrosive on my EVO VIII it melted and destroyed my Idle Air Control Valve near the throttle body.

How about using 100% Distilled water instead of Methanol? The gains will be less but it would be a lot safer for the engine.

It's important to make informed decisions. In this case, it's very important to recognize the difference between soaking a cold engine in a tub of liquid methanol and spraying a finely atomized, properly metered mist 1 foot upstream of the intake manifold. The latter will not leave residual methanol stagnant on any aluminum engine component on either side of the throttle body. It will vaporize completely in the combustion chamber as you would expect of any alcohol (methanol, ethanol, etc,.)

I don't change my oil any more frequently when running methanol. But then again, I actually apply proper design/control to my systems. I use two smaller nozzles (not 1 big one). They aren't mounted in the manifold. They spray only when the engine is up to temp. And only the volume that they are supposed to. They aren't still spraying after the throttle body is closed. And they aren't spraying excessively when airflow is low. If you threat methanol like a fuel (which is what it is) and not like a garden hose, there is absolutely no downside to running it. In fact, it will not only keep your engine cleaner but also result in less wear and tear through knock/temp reduction.

lol... the meth kit for the n55 is done. Just in the process of accumulating the parts and writing instructions/docs. Much easier task than before since the installation instructions are 99% the same as the n54 kit. Once we have everything in order, we will roll forward

Great work Shiv, If i am not mistaken, there was/Is no system like this available for either the EVO or the STI.

What are the conditions in which the system is activated?
Is it some combination of rpm, throttle position, engine load or something else?

The system doesn't enable until the engine is up to temp (oil temp > 170F). Then it meters meth spray DC% as a function of calculated airflow (kg/hr), air intake temp, RPM and throttle angle. A far cry from the Snow, Coolingmist, Devils Own, Labonte, etc meth kits which attempt to meter flow by adjusting pump speed/injection pressure.

Lol... thanks Shiv! I updated the N55 thread with this news, just lots of guys out there that feels like we are now the red-headed step-child at this point! Love the M3 work though, since its probably my next car

I think the Aquamist systems are pretty good, when set up properly. Running off of injector duty cycle factors in air mass, throttle position, IAT, and rpm,and there is also a boost threshold that must be triggered. I don't think Aquamist has an engine coolant sensor input, though probably one could be added. I try to avoid boost on a cold engine, though I understand that with super responsive turbo motors like the N54 and N55, boost is actually hard to avoid.

Can't wait for the official release. This sounds so awesome. Great work! Is the kit running 100% meth or is it a 50/50 mix? Using the windshield fluid reservoir as the meth tank?
How about "GOT METH" for a personalized plate

just my 2c... but i would never put a license place like that on my car... cops will prolly pull you over left and right... or real meth addicts will say, "well... yes i do" and try to sell you some etc.
