KW Sleeve-Over adjustments

I'm trying to adjust my KW Sleeve over suspension. Looking over the instructions from KW, the key thing they recommend is that the "Wheel Hub to Fender edge be at the minimum 13". Looking at my setup (which is too low in my opinion) measures about 12.5" in the rear. What is the downside of having the suspension below 13" and what is the norm for most having installed the KW Sleeve Over? I'm just trying to find a balance between lowering the car and optimizing drivability. I'm really dissatisfied with how the car sits right now so I think it is time for me to fix it. Really don't have much experience with suspension adjustment so any input would be helpful.

Also, I have also heard that I will need a new alignment if I mess with the height. Is this true?

I will post some pictures of before and after tomorrow.

Thanks...

Minimum distances from wheel hub center to fender edge (according to KW) is supposed to be 13 inches or 330mm.

Spent a couple of hours trying to adjust the KW sleeve over today. I'm not very pleased with the results as trying to adjust the height is a pain in the a**. You can only turn the damn thing a fraction at a time with no idea how much you are moving. On top of that the right and left sides are not even. Looking at the car from behind it looks like the right side is higher. But if you look at the wheels the right side is lower.

I talked to KW and they told me that you have to remove the spring for adjustment. Not sure how to proceed. I'm so feed up with this setup I'm really second guessing why I bought it.

Any suggestions on how to fix this damn suspension setup would be appreciated.

Thanks...

Take it to a shop (i.e. Driver Source in Houston) that does track-setups and have it corner-balanced at your desired ride height. IMO this is the only way to get adjustable springs perfectly level. If you also track your car (solo), you can do the corner balancing with driver's weight in the driver's seat.

I'm now so tempted again to just get KW S/Os and deal with the rougher ride looks soooo good and you can corner balance and keep EDC. Really a nice in between option.

The ride is not rough with the S/O kit, especially if you have e36 bumpstops and shortened top mounts.

If you set it low, it can be kind of harsh on bad roads. I can't use my EDC because on comfort mode, the shocks will bottom out (not hitting the bump stops). This is obviously very bad for the shocks. I don't mind keeping it on Sport Plus all of the time but that kind of defeats the purpose.

I know what you mean, I had these on my last car. Comfort Mode was ok, but eventually 5k miles later it became a bit harsh on bad roads. But damn lowering does look good.

Now that I'm back and on a ZCP car, I have a new found appreciation for the EDC functionality and how well it actually handles in ZCP form. Just wish the car was a tad lower for looks, but I guess you can't have it "all".

I put mine on with about 3,000KM and they are set about 1/2" from lowest setting and I don't bottom out. I wonder if the shocks are wearing over time. I'm sure if I kept them on for several years, the same thing would likely happen

When adjusting the rear you do have to drop the swing arm a bit, make your adjustment and put the bolt back in. The front are fully adjustable without removing the springs.
I wouldn't mess with trying to dial in height. Install the springs and take your car to get a good alignment/corner balancing. Just make sure the alignment shop knows that you will need some fine tuning of height and tell them how low you want it. It's easier for them to make adjustments when all 4 wheels are in the air

It's only an issue with the fronts and I have them down all the way. I'm not sure about shock wear. The shocks seem to function properly; the car rides and handles well. It does have 59K miles though.

if you're at 59k with original shocks...chances are they're done or very close to it i would think.
