imo, this car is geared for 25+ and up, one who's looking for a fun/drivers car with main function being performance oriented w/ room for friends to come along when the need arises

its a perfect car! well, for my needs!

Precisely. 128er, believe what you want to believe. As I have said many times, this is all about business and BMW wouldn't give a rat a*s to what you can afford or not.

there is a subtle distinction...shame on all of you for thinking that this is a pricing thread...this thread was the culmination of 128ers (aka 26k) extensive demographic research on the 1 series....BMW NA should reward him for his tireless work by setting the 128 base price at a reasonable 30k....

I think that ultimately the average age group for the 1 series will be much higher than BMW & others think.

Just look at the MINI & Sion XA/XB. Both of these cars wrer marketed at the hip young crowd, but ended up being bought by a lot of folks in their 40's & 50's.

I think that a lot of these cars are going to be sold to people just like myself:
- 45-50 years old
- kids old enough to have their own cars
- have enuogh disposable income to buy a fun /not very practical car.

I also know from practical experience with my two daughters (17 & 19), that a lot of todays young adaults think that the ultimate vehicle has four doors, high ground clearance, & four wheel drive!:iono:

BMW wants to attract new buyers, whatever their age or income. Because their hard-top models have grown so much in size and refinement since the E30, their least expensive sedans and coupes, suitably optioned, are pushing 50K and are marketed to the luxury trade, not to enthusiast drivers. Now we’ll see a two-pronged attack. For the (well-heeled) hard core, there will be the new M3, an E92 variant with a spectacular 4.0L V8. For others, whether enthusiasts or merely folks who aspire to a roundel for its cachet, there will be a new entry-level car that BMW hopes will excite the market as the 2002 did. The 2002 was a cult car among enthusiasts. The proliferation of successor models in the hands of badge-shopping yuppies gave rise to the hoary joke about the difference between a BMW and a porcupine. When the 1 series takes off, be prepared for a new round of inverse snobbery. Still, if I enjoy my 135i as much as I enjoyed my 2002s in their day, I won't care who else has one. Let the good times roll.

My guess is that the demo will be fairly balanced age-wise for the 1er, but I am absolutely sure it will be a mainstay in the high school parking lots of the hoity-toity 'hoods for years to come.

And my wife drives the X3 so all I need is a nice powerful 135i. My son is 16 and is already eying the 135i. Well, he'll have to settle for the VW Rabbit I'll be buying him.

I'm 37. I have a wife, two kids and a minivan. I've been passionate about cars since I could walk. I want to drive a BMW and have fun. 1er fits the bill. The age discussion is irrelevant. This is a car for car enthusiasts.

And the 128i better start at US$27-28K and no more, even if this isn't a pricing thread.
