aFe's Pro5R Media offers the highest airflow while providing outstanding filtration (98.6% cumulative filter efficiency). With 5 layers of progressively finer medical grade cotton gauze sandwiched between two aluminum screens. This type of media will give you least amount of air restriction and lowest possible exhaust gas temperatures (EGT's). It is ideal for vehicles that only see highway driving, or for those who want to build the most horsepower.

Pro Dry S media offers outstanding airflow, superior cumulative filter efficiency and maximum convenience. Traditional paper filters restrict airflow, which inhibits engine performance. aFe's Pro Dry S OIL FREE filter media provides increased airflow at "near OE" filtration levels of 99.2%*.

Perhaps the greatest benefit of new Pro Dry S filters is the convenience of servicing these oil-free filters. Most oil based filter manufacturers suggest that filters be cleaned with special chemical solvents and restored with special oil. Pro Dry S filters have a service life of up to 50,000 miles in standard driving conditions. And cleaning can be as simple as lightly tapping it on the ground (for up to 85% of the original rate of flow). To return to nearly 100% of the original performance, you simply rinse your Pro Dry S filter in warm water and a common household detergent such as Simple Green. i love how retailers give us these little teasers with vague details
at least this one has the price, but no way of ordering or any other relevant details.

This is a engine air cleaner. The carbon one is for the air conditioning.

The M5/M6 have a separate charcoal filter in the airbox to reduce emission impacts from the reverse flow of fumes when the engine is turned off. It's been said that the new M3 has a charcoal layer incorporated into its stock filter. M5's/M6's have seen HP increases with the removal of the separate charcoal filter.

yea..how much more power does the filter actually give

its an air filter. its only going to give you small power increases. the advantage is you are able to deliver more air to the engine when needed. its not going to give you this ZOMG power jolt like it sounds like everyone is expecting...maybe 5-10hp max. you want big power, slap a supercharger or turbo system in...we all know this!

regardless of the power increase, i'm going to order one just so i can let the beast breathe a little better...it can't hurt!

You hit the spot! The HP increase is minimum on a high-flow drop in replacement filter, especially in a NA engine.

We will see if we can put an M3 on the dyno to find out!

No one is expecting 150 wheel hp from this but numbers slightly less than what the M5/M6 guys get by removing carbon filters should be realistic, shouldn't it?

read the top...clearly explains the difference. oiled, you get more air flow but you trade off for maintenance. dry, you get less airflow with lower maintenance.

Pro Dry S for me, I prefer the 99.2 filter efficiency and ease of cleaning and maintenance with some performance gain . Also with our cars having such a long interval between oil changes, not letting to much dust and dirt from the air getting from the intake to the engine is very important.

Both filters work well. It's really coming down to personal preference. There is really no measurable difference in terms of performance between the two.
