So I'm looking for a 2011 E92 and most everyone selling one that I have spoken too (not all) says the car has never been redlined or raced. I do consider hammering the pedal when a streetlight turns green to be racing. Not just at a track. But they keep shaking their heads as if they have babied their cars for 80,000 miles. Am I the only member on this forum that risks getting at least one ticket every time I jump into it? Or is it by happenstance that when people are selling their cars they suddenly have memory loss? With that being said I can't stop looking at Last NA Mineral white 2011 with fairly low mileage. Now that car does look like it's never been raced. Unfortunately my budget does not reflect the beauty of that car. So luckily I will end up with a "never raced" E92 with 70,000 miles for $30,000. Anyone else on here who "never races or redlines?"

I bet 75% of M3 are driven slow. 25% hotrod their cars around with 1% actually racing. When these cars get to 2nd and 3rd and 4th owners, the hotrodding percentage goes up.

Nah man. I take my car to the track when I can. Definitely been red lined. Even bounced off the rev limiter my first few times until I got used to how fast she revs up. Hard to redline on the street though as if you redline much past second gear you're already exceeding the speed limit. I bought this car for my enjoyment. Not to stare at in the garage and caress. That's what a Ferrari is for. But not an E92 M car.

I try (once warmed up properly) to redline once a day. My car has been tracked a fair amount and sees 4-season year round use in the Midwest. I'm on original RB's at 110k miles with no change in wear metals going back to 50k (08 so monitor with oil analysis). I don't burn oil. I'm also OCD with maintenance, good examples are out there, just look for service history and don't forget interviewing a private party owner can give a lot of insight into cars condition. Better than "get a PPI".
And 99% of m3post gasps!

I come pretty close or actually red line it roughly 50% of the times I get to drive it. Not a dd so when I take it out it's to run a local errand or for pure pleasure. When I do have the occasion to put my foot into it, the vast majority of the time it's very early on a Saturday or Sunday morning with no traffic, fewer LEO and no distractions.
To own this car and not drive it as the performance vehicle it is, is silly IMO. |

Are you looking to keep one as a garage one and one as a hood rat?

Not sure if you were asking me Amir but I'll answer anyway. I bough the vert and shortly thereafter decided that I need a coupe. My girl will be taking over the E93 and I'll get an E92 because what every family needs is two M3's. No point in owning a four door 550i Xdrive M car or an X5 for the practicality??? Yea, I probably do not think rationally sometimes which has been validated by my girl who is not happy with me about my plan.

Buyers are full of BS as well. Even if the car is a daily driver, dealer maintained car with no track time, you get low balled every time!
With every car Ive had, there has been no financial benefit to be first or second owner, having receipts from dealership. I get the same value as the fourth owner who does all the work himself in the driveway! Just the way it is.. |

I was going to go down that route and keep my E90 fresh and do hood rat things to a second, older E92. Then I was like "LOL that's retarded" and moved on, sold my e90 and got an STi. However, like a true addict, I'm looking at E92's to buy for whenever my deal finally closes escrow.

People who have an M3 and claim they've never redlined it are full of shit. Hell, every car has been redlined many times in its life. I would be very skeptical of someone who claims they never redlined the car. It's a red flag that they might be hiding something. I assume by "race" they mean track day, drag strip, autocross, etc. Very few people actually do that. And, to be totally frank, M3s are built for hard driving and that's what 99% of buyers do with it. No one spent $75,000 on a new E9X M3 to putter around at low speed like an old lady -- that's what the 328 that costs half as much is for.

Also, OP, I will be 100% honest in telling you the following about my M3 (which is for sale, by the way): 1. It has seen redline plenty of times, and it was worth it every single time. 2. It has been to the track about a dozen times, and it was worth it every single time. 3. Neither #1 or #2 above has caused a problem. I bought the car to drive it, not to live in a state of paranoia like some people on here.
