Seriously? KW has put together something BMW couldn't or wouldn't? You have a brand new M3 and are going to put Coilovers on it? I believe the factory does not go balls to the wall but...it just seems odd...no?

I have a 335 and if the M handles close to the way that does I would be pissed. I can't stand the sport suspension on the 335.

Also is there any way to get comfort accsess without the Tech package?

Thanks,

Nate

That's a personal choice. Thanks for the thread Tom. I'm tuned in.

Since no one else has answered it -- NO. Packages and options sometimes changes from year to year so check back when the 2009s arrive.

Yeah, it'd be nice if they offered some more standalone options, but not likely I fear.

Tom, I used your iPod integration unit for my E46, and it was conceived and executed very well, so I'll be monitoring your latest project. I've got pretty much the same car on order (19" wheels instead of the 18"s), so this should be interesting.

I'm not surprised by your findings on the CDV, but thanks for confirming. When I test drove the E92 6MT, I didn't get the same vague clutch feeling and inconsistent engagement that I had in the E46. Makes you wonder why they bothered putting it on in the first place?

Keep up the good work!

KW V3 Coilover install

Sorry for the delay, it's time to put this project in high gear.

There is a limited of suspension offerings for the new M3 since the car is still very new. H&R and RDSport are among the companies that offer springs to give the M3 a minimal drop and still keep within the "window" of EDC, which this vehicle is equipped with.

We've had a few M3s in and out of the shop with both suspension setups and was not satisfied with the stance and need something a bit more extreme.

KW has been in the scene for some time and fit the bill. With 14-level adjustable compression damping, it is among one of the best kits on the current market. Also since we are equipped with EDC, the kit came with the proper EDC code isolators to keep everything in check.

Completed install - KWV3

Completed shots of KW coilovers showing its new aggressive stance:

Overall, the M3 was brought down about 1.25" in front and 1.0" in rear. We'll revisit the suspension after a couple of weeks for reinspection and fine tune when the new wheels are installed.

More info on the KW V3s can be found here:

Sharp eyes will notice the new exhaust. More to come.

great drop. definitely helps those 18"s fill out the wheel wells. i'm surprised it is on 1" in the rear because, if anything, the rear seems to be too low.
