Yes. It looks like the new M3 has returned more to a sleeper-like concept instead of the flashy looks of M5/M6, and that's a good thing, since that is what it started out as. I'll definitely not have a badge. They will know when I step on it at 100mph and leave the scene.

I do consider the vents on the side of the bonnet flashy and overkill. Especially since they they serve no real purpose (I checked with a technician.) But this is one of those taste preferences. I'd rather not have them on the new E92 M3, but I won't cancel my order if it does have them, either. Some people like you obviously like them and that's okay too. I thought that that the quad tailpipes on the E92 M3 pics looked more civilized and less flashy than on the M5/M6 or E46 M3 as well, I hope they'll look about the same way with the release car too.
The salesguy who is responsible for the M3 waitlist e-mailed me today after I sent him some pics of the M3 from the Internet and said "don't worry, you'll get yours in the summer, we'll order yours as soon as BMW let's us start ordering them"... Ahh, sweet music to my ears. I was so happy! Best regards, Jussi |

Good for you. I'll wait till the end of 2007 to see if I should order one. What color combo did you order?

There are no "combinations", "colors" or "options" to order yet, since the M3 is not available for order in BMW's system, because it hasn't been released yet! Only pre-orders and waitlists exist at this point. Only when BMW shows the M3 and makes it public, then shortly after that they will start taking orders for deliveries for a date that they will usually disclose when they publicize the model.

PS. The gills, side vents, etc. call them what you want. Are not functional at all. Just to look agressive. And no I will never debadge an M car. It takes away from the vehicles aggressiveness and adds to the mystique which I think sucks. Just my opinion. love to all -pete. |

Side grilles - no function?
Especially since they they serve no real purpose (I checked with a technician.)
I heard that on the E46 M3 one of the side grilles served to cool the cars CPU. I may be misinformed... |

No, they don't. (That's actually kind of funny, if you know where the "CPU" is on the E46 (and the fact that there are many, for many different systems.).)
There is extra cooling grill/holing on top of the E46 M3 bonnet that does serve a purpose, though. Best regards, Jussi |

why would someone debadge a ///M3 when the body style is different - with sidevents and all? doesn't make any sense. Only case i can think of is in a E36 M3, which share the same body style as regular E36 (if you don't consider different front/rear bumpers, side skirts, side moldings etc).

Well I don't know what are the primary reasons people debadge. For me it's ease of washing and avoiding hard-to-remove dirt surrounding the badge, not to conceal the true identity of the car.
