What to look for on an 09 VF-620 car?

So this weekend I am driving 300 miles to look at an 09 VF-620 car.

First let me say that I have been around modded cars and superchargers for most of my life, so I am very familiar with them. I have also done my homework talking to my local dealership about the history of the car (it's only issue was with the bluetooth module), looked up the VIN to see the options, and attempted to contact VF who did the work on the car, that didn't have much success.

VF really wouldn't talk to me much, so I have no idea what kind of power the car makes, but I have confirmed it is the 620 kit rather than any others. I was also concerned with the calibration they provide if it changes the speed limiter and rev limiter and I got an answer that was not 100% confident from the gentleman I spoke with, so if anyone knows that I'm also curious.

What I am not very familiar with, is the E92 M platform. The car has ~25k miles and is a DCT car. Are there any model specific options or issues to look out for or be aware of?

I did rule out that 09 was as old as I was going to go with the changes to the idrive system and the many reported issues I have seen from motors in 08 cars.

Thanks guys, hope I can pick this thing up soon!

I assume this is at a dealer?

Not much you can do to verify what the DME has calibrated without taking it to someone with dealer tools unless you have the VF programming and cable. Even then I am unsure if the VF stuff allows you to read the tune or not. You might want to see if the dealer can contact the previous owner and see if you can get their contact info to ask some of these questions.

Personally, I wouldn't want a car that's already been supercharged.

I bet your looking at Vinny's car. The white VF supercharged E92 M3? If so, that baby is sweet and should be very well taken care of.

Vinny has a VF540 (non-intercooled), I believe he's referring to Dwayne's VF620:

By default, VF removes the speed limiter on all tunes unless otherwise specified. Rev limiter was increased to 8450RPM.

We know of a couple of VF supercharged VF M3s up for sale, we've either built and/or serviced most of them.

There's nothing wrong with purchasing a supercharged M3. This particular car has relatively low miles and well cared for - you should be perfectly fine. As an added measure, we would be happy to perform a PPI before purchasing, feel free to contact me directly.

Tom,

(**Sorry, Dont mean to hijack the thread) I sent you a PM about the challenge street x pipe! I wanna get one. Do you think it sounds decent with the OEM exhaust?

I forget Vinny had the VF540.

You are correct Tom, I am meeting with Duane to look at his car Sunday. Being around modded (and forced induction) cars all my life does not bother me at all as long as the car is structurally sound. Duane has not given me any reason to have any doubt, I do want to make sure I cover all my bases as a buyer though, these things are not cheap. I'm sure everything will go smoothly.

Unfortunately I was told that EAS isn't open on weekends when I called to see about having coding done on my E46 while I was in town, otherwise I would take you up on that PPI offer.

Also, thank you for the information on the tune, it sucks that it conflicts with what VF told me because I know that the rev and speed limiters are what the dealership looks at should anything bad happen.

Forget about the tune voiding a dealer warranty as the car is supercharged. They don't need to read the ecu. They can just open the hood

lol, ok.

You are assuming that the car will be supercharged for the rest of it's life. What if I decide to remove it in a year, and 3 years later I have a problem, assuming I purchased an extended warranty.

If its been supercharged, the warranty is voided.
And its easy for them to find out, especially since the rev limiter was probably raised.

If the car is supercharged now, and in 6 months i remove it, then 3 years later an injector fails it is illegal for them to void the warranty based on that. The modification has to be directly related to the failure.

Buy a 600hp+ car to only put it back to stock? Drive it and then let's see if you change your mind and if you don't do yourself a favor and just buy a stock one

I just put my 750 rwhp GTO back to stock to sell it after 6 years.

This won't be my last car and stock cars bring more money. I'm thinking years out when it's my turn to sell, not immediate future. I just used that as a possible, yet realistic, scenario other than the timeframe.

No way thats gonna pass under warranty.
If the car was ever supercharged during its life, the warranty is voided.... there's no way around this.

yeah, lol good luck w/ that! I fully understand the Mag Moss Act, but the dealer can do whatever they want and IMO I would void the warranty immediately, regardless if you put it back to stock, a competent person can tell it's been toyed with. Either way enjoy it

i agree any competent person can, i have no intentions of trying to hide anything.

i have fought dealerships on the Mag Moss act in court and won, so i'm not concerned.

Either way, I have to talk to VF or EAS tomorrow about fixing a few things on the car but I can't wait to get it here.
