FI and DCT?

Anybody with a supercharger blow up or melt their DCT yet? I cant decide which trans to get. DCT is cooler, but its $9200 with my discount if it breaks. With a 6MT ill smoke the clutch first....

From all the threads I've read, no DTC's have blown up yet. But I am sure others with an S/C'r and DCT will chime in.

I've actually only read one thread where the DCT actually got destroyed, but the story behind it was the guy had either the V625 SC or the AA Stage 2. Alone, the CT can handle it (our DCT is rated at like 450 fl/lbs, with a 20%+ discount so more like 540 ft/lbs which is something i read on this forum), but this guy tried his very best to ruin the DCT tranny and did something like 30 or 40 launch controls a day, some of them back to back with numerous tranny overheat warnings. And it still lasted a really long time (I dont remember but it was like a few months or something). I'll see if I can find it..

Seems I over exaggerated my story a little. Here is the real post (or a copy of it)

I've had zero issues with my DCT running an ESS VT2-600 at the track. I believe that the ESS tune manages power delivery through on throttle shifts to help save the clutches. I could be mis-remembering this conversation with ESS but you can feel the power pour on just a moment AFTER the gear change in a wide open run. It's very subtle though.

There have been a few blown. Dct's, some with s/c and even a few stock ones. Just like any other trans, it depend on abuse and amount of cooling

M3 DCT is a very reliable transmission. To date we have not had any reports from customers with failures on our supercharged cars and we have yet to have any issues with our own test cars. Our 09 DCT car used for development and testing was driven very hard for 60k miles and never had any transmission issues.

I have the ESS VT2-600 and when I tried launch control and the DCT went into overhead mode and disengaged for about 30 seconds. It launched at 6000 rpm and just spun the wheels uselessly then tried to change to 2nd gear while that was happening then the overheat warning. Gear re-engaged after about 30 secs and everything seemed normal. Launch control on boost is pretty much useless..

This was my first attempt at LC with a VT2-600

I didn't get any warnings but I might have if I would have had more traction.

from this past monday with my drag setup was the only time i had dct overheat. DCT wouldn't let me shift till i came to a stop and then let me drive normally afterwards. Other than that with boost dct is amazing.

here's a video i need software or the linelock so i can do much better burnouts.

Uhm, thanks captain obvious?

That's like saying if this guys' M3 wasn't boosted the C63 would've walked him HARD...

Akash, so how were the DR's? As your aware, you cant hit the brake and try to brake stand our transmissions. It activates the clutch. W/O software or linelock, its hard to heat them up. What times did you run?

lets pump the brakes big guy

ive beaten tuned C63's multiple times with my N/A M3.....also, FBO for max HP for a C63 can cost just as much as a blower for an M3 (for example: http://www.modernhorsepower.com/cgi-...=MC63S3CMRPACK
so the logical comparison based on PRICE (dependent upon which blower is chosen, and which parts for the C63 as well) is a blown M3 vs a FBO C63......

...then go ahead, make the argument that one is boosted while the other is N/A, etc......in this specific case the logical choice for max hp on an M3 is a blower, while the logical choice for a C63 is staying N/A and getting full bolt ons (sure there are blowers out there, but the majority of people steer away from them)

not sure what you meant by this post ^, but okay

+1, the software for our tranny is very limiting in that regard

I wasn't looking for an analysis, but thanks.

I was simply replying to your previous comment about him walking the C.
You said "throw in boost"

That wasn't a fair assessment for the C, who knows what he had/DIDN'T have.. that made him get walked like that.

You've beaten multiple TUNED 63's with your N/A M3? Depending on what bolt ons you have, maybe. I'd sure love to see it, and find out who's modding them, so that way I don't buy their tune when i get my C.

Any vids? Not doubting the validity, but did you walk them or was it even close?

How much power are you putting down to the wheels?
