They just did the new Z4 Sdrive35i (that name feels silly to type, why not just call the thing Throatwarbler Mangrove?).

There is a rumor in the article that the BMW engineers let slip to CAR that the X6M is actually quicker around the Nurburgring than the E92 M3. Shockingly quick considering it's size and weight.

That is interesting.

Are they AWD? It could be a trick diff matched with some fat rubber and a powerful engine. The Ring is a power track after all.

I still don't know how that's possible with these things weighing over two tons.

According to the article almost everything is carried over from the X6 50i only tweaked a bit, it's still got the same ZF auto, the same basic suspension setup, the same awd system though tweaking it so more of the power goes to the rear and stays there for longer, it still has the same torque vectoring rear diff. Though I would imagine the brakes to be ceramic this time round.

Personally I think it will be a dog to drive, as the normal X6 35d is as hard as a go-kart and as bouncy as hell over a series of bumps, add twice the power and tie it down and you are looking at the worst/most pointless SUV on the planet, sure it will be the fastest on the track and on mototrways but away from these I reckon no one will have the convidence to push it as hard as you would a Cayenne Turbo S.

Ya, its cause of the wiidddeee track and huge tires coupled with the AWD system. If they can get the center of gravity down low enough, which they should as the x6 in its standard form is already pretty low, this thing will be a best.

They must have misunderstood something. It's supposed to be quicker than the E46 M3.

Best regards, south

Best regards, south
Well either they have misunderstood or more likely been lead to believe but it definitely states that they are talking about the current M3 and not the E46.

Marketing is a wonderful thing, ain't it.

+1

That would be ridiculous. One of those "I'll believe it when I see it" things.

Right next to the Q7 V12 TDi .

And what's the reasoning for the last statement regarding the Cayenne Turbo S?

I couldn't agree more about the Q7, the 4.2TDI is plenty quick enough for the sheer size of the Q7 but the V12 just moves it's performance into RS4 levels in something that's more than 5 meters long and more than two and a half tons, never mind that it's £100k.

The Cayenne Turbo S is the SUV to beat for handling with the intent of throwing it down a country lane, maybe the likes of the Q5 might get close on such roads because of the lesser dimensions but it's not got the performance to match. I get to drive an X6 on a regular basis down a not to great B road and I can tell you that it isn't the kind of car that fills you with confidence to push harder and harder like the Cayenne S did. Giving that that X6 has half the power of the X6M it will require a much better tied down chassis that will ultimately led to worse ability on poor roads. I had hoped the BMW would have given it some form of air or adaptive suspension but sadly it doesn't look likely.

I hope I'm wrong but some how I think this will be BMW's most pointless cars ever along with the X5M.

What? 0-100 in 5,5 for the V12 and 4,8 for the RS4? And around the ring the Q7 would be annihilated!

The Q7 V12 TDI is just a car for rich dieselhorny old guys
