What gas do you use?
Hello everyone,
This topic probably has been discussed millions of times but I searched and couldn't find any thread about it. What kind of gas do you guys use for your M3? How is Husky 94? or Shell 91V Power? Any recommandation?

Hey GOLFFRR, thanks a lot for the quick reply! isn't higher number better for the engine?
plus recently I feel my car wants to stall easier than before (from stop to 1st gear) so I was wondering maybe it is because of the gas I use. I have been using Shell Vpower for the last 4 years for my 330xi and my current M3.

well i am not sure what you guys have over in Canada but over here in the states we only really have 91 available unless you want to pay an arm and a leg to get higher. If you can afford it buy the highest you can get
there might be some draw backs to this so ill let the experts on this topic chime in

Petro Canada Supreme from a dedicated Supreme pump. Two stations in Edmonton offer dedicated Supreme pumps. If I am not near them, then Shell V-Power, but I circle like a vulture, waiting for a vehicle to use the V-Power 91 Oct fuel and then pounce on it when they leave.
Yeah, I am that anal about it. If I had my choice, Chevron 94 Octane. When I visit my inlaws in Golden, BC, I put that in the M3. Love that stuff. |

I've always stayed away from Petro Can, and Husky due to their Ethanol content. I noticed the other day while filling up my DD CRV, that Costco has the "Husky" logo on their pumps too. Would keep the M away from there too.
My 335i and other performance cars I've owned in the past were only ever filled up at Shell or Esso. Cheers Asif |

Esso as my work card is that.My own use is Shell or Petrocanada and the big difference is that I do get better fuel milege on the Shell I guess thanks to the lack of Ethanol.

What are the impacts of using the "upto 10% ethanol" gas that we get almost everywhere now? I have one pump near me that is zero ethanol but everyone else seems to be selling a petroleum/ethanol mix.

My car knocks on Esso 91 when I get on throttle at lower revs. At least I think it knocks - makes a quiet diesel-like sound for a half a second and then takes off normally. Almost never happens on Shell 91 and never happens on Petro Canada 94. I am wondering if that's dangerous for the engine.
