Anyone ever painted their key?
Was wondering if anyone had done this (Porsche style) it doesn't look like the halves come apart

This brings me back haha. I asked this very question over two years ago. Consensus was to just get the keys wrapped in vinyl - unless you don't keep your keys in your pocket and / or don't use a keychain.

I see. I had a feeling any paint solution wouldn't be very durable. Wonder how people keep their Porsche keys in good shape.

Worst comes to worse, you're out maybe 50 bucks for paint. I say ask a shop and give it a try.

Yea I know they just snap in painted sides. I figured our keys would pry apart and make it simple but they must be fused after the circuit board is installed. I had just had an idea and wondered if it's a DIY it's not something I need to do more out of boredom

If the keys weren't so expensive I'd say dive in with a DIY lol

Why dont you just buy these and paint them out?
If the result is good, you can just move your chips to the painted ones. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Replacement-...dW36TI&vxp=mtr |

My Panamera Turbo key is painted plastic, its an option. Pretty durable but just like anything else, it will get beat up. I did however prefer the chrome metallic which is much less susceptible to damage.
Stick with just vinyl for the BMW, too much of it goes into the slot. You can find colored vinyl or carbon style which is a bit more durable. To paint, you would have to sand down the black plastic texture too much to get a good finish and get enough clearance for the thickness of paint, primer, and clearcoat. |
