Battery Replacement

So my battery recently died in my car. The locks have been weird lately not unlocking with comfort access. And today they finally wouldn't unlock. Weird thing is I never got the battery going out warning lights. It just happened in the span of 3-4 weeks. Granted I've driven the car maybe twice in that time span and very short drives at that.

Anyways onto my question. I removed the battery and found out it's and Exide Classic 49C battery.



Now to my knowledge this isn't an AGM battery, correct? I thought all E9x M3 batteries were AGM? Is there anyway to check what the battery settings are coded for? Or is the only option to override them with new settings?

I'm afraid that the dealer replaced the battery not realizing if it needed to be AGM or not. If the incorrect battery type was installed Non-AGM with AGM type, would the car still start? Run fine?

The battery was manufactured February of 2013, which further makes me suspicious as a 1 1/2 years seems like a short life span for a battery.

Any ideas?

Here are the oem part numbers for the e9X m3 batteries for the last few years:

It does look like exide was an OEM vendor. I can't cross the part numbers for you unfortunately but I presume the dealer did you right. That said, there is no reason for a battery to fail in a year and a half other than electrical gremlins or abuse.

I had a EDC control module fail on my car and it drained the battery when it was turned off for several weeks. I had a warning light that came on that said something like excessive battery drain during shutoff. The dealer found the faulted module, which killed my battery also. They replaced both items.

good luck, but batteries don't fail in 1.5 years without help.

Thanks for the help. I'll call the dealer now and see if they can find out if my OEM battery was AGM or not.

Cause is... you drive your car not enough !
But i need to confess it's the same here !
The solution is....

You can use a non-AGM battery if properly coded. However, that battery doesn't appear to be OEM.

Tom: No I don't on me.

In either case the battery is bad. Autozone just verified and when I got my car coded a few months ago the guy let me know my battery health was really low so I'm not surprised.

So I'm going with AGM. Will I be ok driving with the AGM battery for 15-30 mins before getting to the shop for programming and registering?

You'll be fine. Just get registered as soon as you can once the new battery is installed.
