Valentine 1

I bought a used Valentine 1 unit from a member here.

When I plug in the unit it instantly sounds off after the initial start up. X-band, K-band, Ka-band all go off all the time. I tried playing around with the settings and no change. I've tried all modes as well. I have an Escort Passport X-50 and it does not sound off and have radar detected as much as the Valentine. The Valentine is literally detecting something the moment it comes on and stays on for nearly 80-90% of my daily commute. Any ideas? Could the unit just be a broken unit?

I would try messing around with the wire? If nothing changes I'd contact Valentine for some support, and still if nothing can be resolved contact buyer. I'd be pissed @ buyer from the beginning though and ask for money back. As a purchaser, I wouldn't and shouldn't have to go through this, especially if he stated it was in working condition. A new one will run you 410, and trust me it's the best 410$ you can spend the minute you're saved from the first ticket.

Maybe some electronic device you have inside your car is setting it off?

I know a few years ago, I had a digital camera that once turned on, it causes my V1 to go out of wack. I don't have that issue anymore with my newer cameras but something to look into. Check around to make sure you don't have any electronics causing interference.

Otherwise I suggest contacting V1 for support.

First, check the electrical connections: +12V and ground. It is very sensitive to power. This usually shows up as the detector turning itself on and off. However, it is a cheap thing to check.

However, it is probably out of whack. You probably won't be able get your money back. So, contact Valentine Research and send it in for a tune-up or repair. Good luck.

Cheers.

Thanks guys.

I've tried the Valentine on another car and still having the same issues. I'm positive it's the unit itself. I'm going to bite the bullet and send it in to Valentine. I feel like i got ripped off, but the seller is willing to refund me $30 (partial payment of service charge from Valentine).
