Help with exhaust...am i asking for too much?

Hello guys my next mod is exhaust and i just need to know which one to choose...maybe you guys can help me here.

Im looking for an axle back exhaust that wont break the wallet (akra, ericsson, etc)

that will do the following:

1. Not so loud when you dont want it to be ( 3k rpm and lower) Cops in my area are ASSES so i would like it to sound somewhat not so loud, so when i see one i can shift at 2K (important issue)

2. Louder at higher rpm ( 5k+ )

3. Looks nice from the rear

4. DEF exotic sounding, instead of the rumbling v8 sound (important issue)

5. HP would be nice, however main concern is something that wont lose hp

6. Would love it to be black (everything)

would love to get an ericsson however too much $$$, and the akra i just dont like the way it looks for some reason

Im leaning towards eisenmann race however from the rear it doesnt look so nice, or a masterchif (sp?) i love the way it looks from the rear however my friends is VERY loud.

I dont expect to nail all of them but what you guys think?

lol, This reminds me of my exhaust thread if you took all of the sarcasm out of it....

An Eisenmann Sport or Akrapovic probably fits your calling more. Eisen is a lil' cheaper, and comes with a black series version, and seeing that you're leaning away from Akrapovic and towards Eisenmann already, I'd say go that way. Don't get race though, if cops are on your ass in the area, then it won't help you. That, and Eisen race drones noticeably more than stock.

kp, it's possible. Poor design restricting flow is possible.

im going to assume from my uneducated opinion, exhaust could lose power do to lesser back pressure. not sure if its true, but i was told and sort of lived with that mentality from my evo. not enough back pressure power loss at low end.

You will never get rid of #4, no matter what others say. Some exhausts do slightly better than others to mask the rumble, but no exhaust will ever make a cross-plane V8 not sound like a cross-plane V8.

exactly, it's the engine, not the muffler that makes it sound exotic or not

This is not true at all. A ton more goes into exhaust tone to just make a statement that.

There are many cross-plank V8's that sound beautiful.

What are you smoking? E-race barely drones and is not too loud at all.
My good friend has it on his M3 and lives in Beverly Hills, where the cops are the most arrogant assholes when it comes to exhausts, and he has had no trouble whatsoever. In fact, he is installing a Gintani catless X pipe this weekend because E-race wasn't loud enough (and he wanted to gain like 30hp haha)
As for drone? It is minimal with the stock x-pipe. In the lower RPM it honestly does not drone much at all and isnt ridiculously loud, and when you floor it and go about 5500 rpm - lets just say the car produces a symphony.

I didn't say it didn't sound beautiful, but the S65 has the same aural characteristics of all other modern-day cross-plane V8s (at least at idle and low speeds). Any exhaust will influence those characteristics in certain ways, but it won't magically transform the very unique sound of a rumbly cross-plane V8 into the equally unique but dramatically different exotic note of a flat-plane V8.

Edit: The above isn't entirely true. The engines in modern Maseratis are cross-plane versions of their flat-planed cousins in Ferraris, and they do have that exotic sound that many people are after. I stand corrected.

Stop by gintani on Friday afternoon. You'll hear e race with the stock x pipe and with the gintani catless x pipe (2 resonators).
My good friend will will be getting the x pipe and a dyno tune on his e92 m3 with e race

It's not, that guy is on crack...
you do realize what is really loud for him may not be loud for you... its SUBJECTIVE. It is definitely considered to be amongst the loudest exhausts for our cars. For me personally, my encore is really loud (at certain rpms). The e race is even louder than my car, so I would consider that exhaust pretty loud... Have to agree though, sounds GREAT!

also, your tolerance for what is "loud" goes up with time. It is not uncommon for people to find their exhausts loud as hell at first, get used to it, and then want louder... happened to me many times, just not on this car

I highly recommend you to post in the local forum and ask if someone with an e race can meet up with you... Videos are helpful for sure, but nothing better than hearing it in person. There should be a ton of members in socal with e race, too
