Akra slip-on or M Performance....can't decide....

Does the Akra slip-on drone at all? Also, does anyone know if the CF tips will discolor from the heat? I know that CF in the engine bay can turn a greenish-yellow from the heat. Definitely would not want this on my exhaust tips!!!

Anyone else cross-shop these? How did you decide? I have never heard either one in real life, and its doubtful I will ever have this opportunity. I have heard the OEM modded exhaust.

I have heard both, and i did a test drive in Bornem ///M test drive center Belgium with the ///M Performance exhaust, and i don't liked it,it sounds hollow...typical for titanium, and drones at low rpm's !
Akra slip on is almost like oem,but more raspy and hollow.
So i did the Oem. exhaust mod. and this is just ,in one word....perfect, 0 drone with the Helmholtz chambers designed by BMW....and special...against drone !
About discolor of the CF tips on the Akra...i don't know.

I cross-shopped them. The lack of good sounding full exhaust possibilities steered me away from the M performance. Not sure if that's in your future.

If I was to go with only an axle back I'd probably lean towards the M performance.

There's no drone with the Akra (at least to my ears).

Reason I went with the Akra is the easy option of going full Evo later on.

I like it, but it's on the quiet side. However the M performance is also on the quiet side.

Full system is not an option for me due to OBD based emission testing in my state. Has to not trigger a CEL, and pass readiness.

Someone with just the Akra slip on could chime in and state otherwise, but based upon what I've read/heard I just don't think you'll get very much out of the slip on alone. Inside the cabin, engine noise will overpower the exhaust whenever you get up in the revs. Akra designed the exhaust to work as a full system -- from a performance and sound perspective.

M performance on the other hand was engineered to work with the stock mid section. Axle back alone I think it's a much fuller sounding exhaust.

Honestly in the cabin, I don't think there's much difference between the Akra and BMW performance.

BMW more raspy, Akra more bassy, but both subdued in the cabin. Although, both sound great outside the car.

In terms of resale, I think Akra is going to hold it's value better.

For emissions, you should pass with a tune. The Cat monitor will not show ready, but you'll still pass with only one monitor not showing ready.

I can't understand whether this /// Performance exhaust's droning is coming from. This is the second time I've seen on this board. I've had it for a very long time and I've really enjoyed it. Floor the car and it wakes up.

Since getting the stage I from BMP (Mike Benvo) it has further accentuated the ///PE.

Choosing an exhaust is subjective and very personal. One can only give feedback through experience. Good luck with whatever purchase you make. It's your hard earned money.

Ditto. Unless you're gonna go full EVO eventually after warranty. To me the best axle back is clearly the Eisenmann Race. It's sounds better than the M Performance to me.

Vijay, i cross-shopped both and I chose the akra slip-on. My buddy has a lime rock edition that has the performance exhaust and it sounds real good. The tips are not as big as the akra, but, in my opinion, look better than stock.

The akra has a deep, bassy sound and, for me, a a great exhaust tone. My car doesn't drone on the highway, but there is slight drone at speeds of 45 mph or so. The craftsmanship of the Akra is fantastic.

I chose the akra because i preferred the exhaust tone over the performance exhaust, the craftsmanship is phenomenal, and I plan on getting the akra mid-pipes in the future. I'll try and post before and after video so you can get an idea between stock and the akra.

BTW, it's been long over due, but welcome to m3post! I used to have an rs4 myself (i remember you from the audi forums) and migrated to the m3.

Both top shelf and different sounding. I love the tone of the M Performance, it's got a great howl and remains classy w/zero drone. I've only heard the Evo and still prefer the sound of the M Perf. I can't comment on Akra droning since I wasn't in the cabin but it is bassier at lower RPM's than the M Perf. Tough call without hearing both in person, tone is so subjective. Good luck!

M per is louder than akra. Akra is very quiet.

How about our Evolve E-tronic unit

Our unit only drones when the valves are open with full x-pipe. We will also be releasing a carbon fiber tips as shortly

BMW Performance is overpriced. I have Remus uss with carbon tips, cheaper, looks better, louder and deeper. $3200 AKRA + $500 test pipes, loud enough. And also in terms of resale price, AKRA FTW.
