2011 M3, Nearly Stripped
There is a local M3 for sale, and the only option appears to be the competition package. Dealer is asking $54K, 8000 miles. I'm interested, but there are a few creature comforts I would miss like heated seats and Sirius radio.
Questions: Is this a fair price? Can the factory sirius unit be added to the stock BMW Pro radio? Heated seats... is there an easy way to add this feature? (Speed Cloth). Thanks. Last edited by spotshooter; 03-13-2012 at 12:15 AM.. |

Paid 54K for AW 2011 e92 4300 miles, Comp Pckg, Cold Pkg, Leather, CF Roof, Mirrors, Front Splitters, Lux Angel Eyes, MS Spacers..
There is definite wiggle room if you only have comp (no leather?) also is it e90 or e92..that affects price I personally like stripped down cars too..less crap that could malfunction..GL |

Im sure you would love it at first but 2-3 months down the road, your gonna start getting annoyed with the lack of equipment. At 54k you can get a very well equipped 10-11 e92

+1.
Heated seats are not mandatory with speed cloth (as they're in leather seats). That being said, seems like there is a little room for negotiation.

There really is a school of people out there (like me) than prefer stripped down cars..as far as options the only ones that really made sense to me were the Comp package (ofcourse ) and Cold and leather b/c I like the heated seats..really everything else is colored bubbles to me..mid dash hump, nav, stereo etc...even power seats you dont get unless you get Premium packg..ask me if I care..lol
The old schoolers use to remove their ACs, radios trying to delete as much as they could for that added weight reduction..so I am glad to see all are not all smitten by the gadgets..not to mention they are outrageously overpriced.. OP. I think you should be right around $51K..assuming ofcourse excellent paint work |

I prefer a tripped down car then a fully loaded one also!
So I ordered one to my liking. I'm sure you will be happy with it. But I did not buy an M3 for heated seats or a navigation, I bought it for the pure driving experiencing.

I'll second that, going from fully loaded to stripper.

Well, I tried to test drive the M3 today and was turned down. They don't allow test drives for high performance cars due to too many people abusing the cars. They only way they will grant a test drive is after negotiating the price/trade. I'm 41, clean cut, and pulled up in my 135i. I've never been denied a test drive before. Go figure?

+1!! My dealer took the time to take the M3 off the showroom floor for me to drive. No reason for a serious dealer to not allow a test drive...

Not sure if I would ever buy from that Dealership.
When I was car shopping in 2006, I pulled in driving a 1987 325IX, my car salesman actually pulled a 2005 M3 off the showroom floor to let me test drive, also test drove a 2006 330I twice. I ended up buying my E90 330I from that dealership. Most other dealerships didn't even acknowledge me. I was 23 yrs old at the time.

Good for you. I'm in my 30's, look a lot younger, and dress like a bum. I really do. I don't know why, but I just don't care about clothes.
Saw a 2008 E93 in a Landrover dealership last September with low miles. Stopped in on my way to order a new 2011 E90. Test drove it, and offered them 48k, checkbook IN HAND. The salesman made me feel like I was a douchebag because they had "over 52k invested in that car". I asked "the one with bald tires and about to go off warranty?". I left and ordered a new one from BMW. And they didn't care how I was dressed. |

Wow. I walked into a dealer and drove a fully loaded e92 m3 with individual paint (80k msrp) and I am much younger than you.
As far as the stripper vs. loaded I think it depends on the person. My previous car has a cd player and that was about it (had leather too). My new car has just about everything. I guess I could go back to the "stripped" configuration, but certainly not willingly. At the same time my "commute" is so short that I don't know that I would care that much. It is nice to have bluetooth. Idrive is pretty cool too. Certainly not must haves though. If I spent more time during a day in the car I think I would have to have all the cool tech stuff and leather. When I was in the market I looked at a e90 dct with comp and nothing else. I liked it, but didn't end up buying it mainly due to it being dct (I wanted 6spd). Just me though. |
