ZCP Question?

Just ordered a new M with ZCP this time, but think it's going to need just a slight more drop. I'm considering a Dinan Stage 1. My question is how the ZCP achieves it's lower ride height, and if I add Dinan springs will it take the ZCP 10mm drop and drop another .5" ? If so I think this would put me at just the perfect height for looks and driveability would remain perfect. Or if I put Dinan on my ZCP would it end up the same and a non-zcp car with Dinan?

It's done on the spring perches, so the Dinan springs will give a nice drop.

10mm lower than a stock M3 plus 12mm from the Dinan springs to give a 22mm drop which is just about perfect.

That's what I thought... so 10mm + .5" with full suspension travel should be a sweet setup.

I'm not sure about this one. If so, how is the rear drop accomplished? I think the drop is done with springs alone.

hmmm.... good question. If this is true then I don't know if I'd still want to use a dinan drop.

I think I remember seeing that someone upgraded a non zcp to the zcp suspension. Not sure if it was an actual thread or not. Maybe he mentions what components are required and how the drop was achieved. Ie. Non ZCP vs ZCP spring lengths etc.

Hopefully Dinan will have the answers. I think at first it was thought that the perches were different heights on the front but I don't think it was ever confirmed. It just never made sense to me that they would do it that way. I will eventually put ZCP wheels and springs/struts/shocks on my car but I'm waiting until I need tires, which might be a while.

ZCP front strut perches are definitely 10mm lower. The rear is done with springs

I recently installed dinan stage one on non zcp car. Stage one is simple set of shorter springs plus bump stops for the front and spring guides for the rear.

Dinan just emailed me back saying I would only gain 1/8" more drop. I guess that means zcp isn't done from perches and is just shorter springs.

Thats too bad, I say wait and see until you get your new car. If you still want lower, the ground control kit may be your only option that allows you to keep EDC and have some height adjust-ability. You can also corner balance your car as well.

If that was true than Dinan springs would lower me .5" more than the 10mm drop. According to Dinan this is not true and I will only be 1/8" lower if I install their springs.

The perches are lower on the Euro Competition model which uses the same dampers as the ZCP.

Put them side to side on the bench and you will see the difference.

Has anyone on the board got a set of front ZCP dampers hanging around that you can get the measurements from to prove it?

To that same person, I still have my non-ZCP dampers on hand. We can coordinate some comparisons between the two.

I read some where on this board that Dinan was making a ZCP specific suspension. Perhaps different spring rates and a tad bit lower ride height. I would wait on this mod if i were you. Or if i was looking to lower, then look elsewhere. Eibach Pro's or maybe RD Sport.

I thought Dinan mentioned a ZCP specific suspension when I talked to them two weeks ago. I didn't ask for details at the time and could be mistaken. Another phone call would clear things up.

If that's true I'd like to find out. None of that had been mentioned to me in my discussions with them.

Sounds a little odd though since BMW just used shorter springs to lower the zcp. In that case there would be nothing zcp specific to Dinan's maybe new mod. Would like to find out though. Def be interested if it's true
