Longer Bolts Needed?

Hey there,

I also have an E92 M3 ZCP and I'm considering spacers as well. Did you need the longer bolts front and rear? Also, do you feel that you need to reduce the rear spacers when you eventually go with wider rear rubber as you mentioned?

Thanks

That's a good idea I already asked EAS about recaros today. I don't have room with my helmet on so may be force to get a set with macht snell side rails so I'm height adjustable.

I'm not that bad yet. My total for all mods is still less than a stoptech trophy BBK.

Yes you need longer bolts. The Turner Motorsports spacers came with the proper longer bolts.

Yes, when I go to the 285 rears, I will most likely have to remove the rear spacers, but the wider tire itself will help fill out the rear.

Are the 12.5mm too much for the 19" ZCP wheels and stock rubber?

I just did a quick measurement of the space between the outer edge of the rear wheel to the outer edge of the wheel arch, and really looks like the 12.5 spacer would push the tires edge beyond the cover of the arch.

Am I missing something?

It doesn't. I can assure you. And no rubbing whatsoever even with aggressive driving. This is with the stock 265/35/19 rear tires.

I love modding, but there is absolutely no return on the expense. And as we all know, modding cars can be a bottomless money pit. OEM options on a car will add some value at resale or trade-in, but mods can actually lessen the value as the resale market for a modded car is much less regardless of the quality of the mods. In this sense, it is a double hit financially. If you could get money back on your mods I would still be all over it. Removing the mods, putting the OEM parts back, and trying to sell the mods second hand can be yet more of an expense and a time consuming PITA. No thanks.

I will still mod my cars, but only if they are small or if I really feel the car is glaringly deficient in some aspect. I will also try to option the car from the factory in a way that I need to minimize my mods. That is one of the reasons I ordered the ZCP option, for instance. For $2500, I get a suspension that needs no modding and wheels that I think are absolutely gorgeous. On top of that, the ZCP will likely add a little value at trade-in. There is also the simple reality that for me, the M3 really doesn't need much modding. The exhaust is a little weak and maybe I will add an axle back unit. The car needs wider tires in the rear and I will likely change out the rears to 285/30's, but that is about it.

The OEM's are also offering more and more options in general including factory mods that do add value to the car and do not diminish resale capacity. Look at Porsche's Ceramic brakes for example. At $8000 for a set of four, it is a relative bargain too.

For those that love big ticket modding...go for it. It is definitely fun, certainly is addicting, and may be needed if you are building a serious track car(but that is different matter). But I am done. If I was the type to keep a car for 10 years, it would still be different, but I tend to flip every 4-5 years, and the loss of money is just more than I care to deal with anymore.
I'm with you. My goal is to keep the car completly stock, except window tint and a track pads for track days. I think once you start, you're never done. If you have a goal to maintain a special car as is, it not only helps resale, but I think has a pride similar to going full mod. If you start modding to have the ultimate... there's always one more thing. If you consider stock/original the ultimate, then you're already done

If Dinan still offered a super charger, doing a full single-tuner build is the one exception I see. Too bad 28k on a built motor that puts out less power than a high quality 8k super charger takes the Dinan build off the table for the most part.
