Only Cosmetic Mods = Rice?

I'm a relatively new m3 owner and I just started modding....but only cosmetic mods for now. I really like to add a front splitter and rear diffuser but do you think it's kinda ricey if I only do cosmetic mods and not performance ones?

Pre-M3 or Pre-Euro, my history of driving cars consists for jap imports which the community here is all about 'hellaflush' and [back in the 90s] body-kits. lol. So adding carbon fiber splitters without upgrading my exhaust, for example, makes me feel a little rice. haha. Just my opinion.

All depends on which cosmetic mods.

Cosmetic mods fine tune the appearance of the car to suit your taste. Rice is adding on parts that look as though they are performance related but aren't. Much different.

I appreciate subtle exterior mods on any car. Full ebay body kits and whale tail wings paired with a horrible paint job or no paint job at all is what I consider Rice. Its kind of hard to rice out a M3 but it has been done.

Technically a well designed (ie CAD designed and wind tunnel tested) front splitter or rear spoiler will actually reduce lift at higher speeds, so while not noticeable on the road, there some slight benefit which may actually be noticed at the track.

This

For the time being I've only planned cosmetic mods as well as my M3 will be a DD, otherwise, performance mods to be planned once the warranty runs out.

if you have good taste in cosmetic mods, it can look great and not rice. On the other hand, you can make it rice if you have bad taste.
Just because you have only cosmetic mods doesn't mean its rice. Happy modding!!

As long as you keep things clean and don't let your car turn into something like this, you're fine

"Rice" is not the same as tasteless, tacky, sleazy, GheTTo, etc. Rice refers to doing a mod that gives the illusion of performance when no such performance actually exists. Like the guy who put an intercooler on the front of his car that had no turbos or supercharger.
