I don't understand this irrational fear of a modern car with 100k miles. These cars should easily double/triple that with proper maintenance, even if driven hard. 100k was a high milestone 30 years ago. Not so much today other than psychologically.
Answer to question: Yes, I would definitely consider it for the right price. |

I was at the gas station the other day and an older gentleman asked if my car was brand new. I said nope, shes got over 108,000 miles. As far as the statement about rock chips, I have paint protection and headlights protected. Nothing lasts very long if you don't take care of it. See attached proof of mileage.

My philosophy goes like this: for me, driving is a hobby. I love it. If I could, I'd take road trips half way across the country just for shits and giggles. Because I enjoy driving, I want to also enjoy what I'm driving. I've already decided that an E90 M3 sedan will be the eventual successor to my 335i, and if I find one that I like with the options that I want that just so happens to have 100,000 miles on the odometer, so be it. I look at gas, and maintenance, and repairs as necessary evils. Those costs keep me and my car on the road where I have the most fun. It might sound cliche, but we truly only live once. If I want to enjoy a high-performance German-made automobile, then by God I'm gonna do it, regardless of what the odometer tells me.

The lifetime fill is bs. Its BMWs' free maintenance excuse, and bottom line the oils wear out over time from use. So a car with no fluid changes at 100k is a definite no. The oil in the diff and tranny are long since shot allowing excess wear and tear on these systems. The brake fluid and radiator coolant are also shot, and the moisture now inside both systems starts rust and corrosion.

Assuming the fluids have been swapped at mike miller intervals and its a 6mt/no idrive, sure. I would replace all the bushings/bearings/ball joints to make it handle like new again, but that's not a big deal-- fun weekend project.

If you don't know how to DIY, then don't. If you do, then absolutely. These cars are relatively easy to work on. It's a labor of love.

Don't be afraid of miles. If a car is well cared for it will be fine. I have bought BMW's with 130,000 miles on them that drove like they have 40K on them, and I put over 50K on myself with no major issues.
Now, to assume an M3 with 100k miles has not been thrashed on... well that may be a bit foolish

I don't want to stir the pot too much, but I will offer my own story -- bought a 2004 E46 M3 in what appeared to be great condition, from a dealer, with 59,000 miles. The car was not a track car for me, but a simple DD with limited to no thrashing. First the RTABs failed, then the rear carrier bushings and a leaking driveshaft seal. That work, at BMW, cost about $5,000 to have repaired due to the fact that the entire rear-end had to be dropped from the car to change the carrier bushings. Then about a year later, the A/C evaporator quit, since it is located beneath the dashboard, the entire dash had to be removed from the car to replace it... another $3,500 later I had cold air. Finally, the FCABs started to go, got the 'brake pedal shudder' that many on these forums have discussed. At this point the car had approximately 85,000 miles on it, and I wouldn't have sold it to my worst enemy.... so I traded in to my local BMW dealer -- Decided I will never buy another used car, ever, because of this. My maintenance costs now with the new E92? Practically $0, maybe $1000 or so a year for tires, but that's it.
Factor in the reduced ED price I paid/negotiated, and I have 0 'drive-off-the-lot' depreciation, in fact the price I paid for my loaded E92 is what you will find many 2011-2012 models selling for USED! To me it's a no brainer, if you think paying $30k for an E92 M3 is a 'bargain' and you want to buy it for that reason (not just to track it/etc...), you're really asking for trouble because if you could -just- afford $30k, you -can't- afford the $5-10k/year in maintenance that is coming. As the other posters have said, proper maintenance can keep a car going forever... I just didn't see much talk about how much all that 'proper maintenance' was going to COST! |

friend has a e90 m3 sedan with 92,000miles, it's actually giving him quite a bit of headache lol. But ive also heard online that they are not as bad as many people think at high mileage. Maybe his is a lemon. not sure..

I have owned a few BMWs. It seems as tho a number of suspension bushes go out between 65,000 and 100,000 miles. It is just life with a BMW......the cost of great handling. Would i buy a e92 M3 with 92K on it? Sure but it would get the rod bearing replaced soon, all suspension parts/bushes replaced........basically a track build. If I didn't already have a e46 M3 track/race car I would consider a high mileage E92 M3.
Lets all remember that regardless of your intentions this is the most reliable car BMW has made in recent history. |

I would buy it for a track car, but not a daily driving car. maintenance over the next few years will likely add up your bottom line to around the price of a lower mileage example.
