Another Door Ding

Just got my fourth door ding this weekend . I still don't understand how this keeps happening. I'm a very careful parker, usually away from the other parked cars. Very frustrated.

Here are my stages of emotion:
1) Denial, its just a shadow or dirt etc...
2) Identification that it is real
3) Anger
4) Anger
5) Anger

I'm not sure what comes next but I'm just stuck in the anger stage. Why can't people respect the property of others.

Lots of haters out there, I've parked far away and have seen beaters pull up super close to me.

Now I think it's better to park next to another nice car than to go park far away and attract neg. attention, I call it hiding in plain sight.

I would go meet your local dent removers and see which one to go with, they can do amazing stuff.

I got t-boned by a Corvette after 2 weeks of ownership and 300 miles on the clock. After I got that crap fixed, a pick-up truck with a stack of mattresses lost it's load right in front of me.. hit a mattress going 80 mph and destroyed the front bumper and steering-oil-cooler.

I'm at a point now where I don't get bothered by little dings here and there... I track the sh*t out of the car and don't even tape the headlights anymore.

Ever since I stopped stressing over it I started to enjoy the car even more.
I admire your approach. Now only if I could make it my approach. Serenity now.............

I parked over in a corner spot at my gym and indulged my anal retentive ways.

Then I came back out and learned that the tree next to my car was an acorn tree and that gravity was fully functioning that day. Can't win.

My wife who could not care less about door dings has none on her 2006 car.

Yeah, I feel your pain too.

ALL of my door dings come from the wife opening her door in the garage and not paying attention. WTF! She opens her rear door (SUV) and it makes perfect contact with the upper part of my rear door panel.

I had a paintless dent repair guy do it once...had about 5-6 dings on the rear door. Turned out PERFECT. It's about time to do it again....what a PITA.

If the wife would be a bit more careful, we could save about $130 every six months...geez...either that or she can acutally PULL OVER TO THE FRICKEN RIGHT when she parks...but NO, she leaves like 2' of room over there. lol. FML

Knock on wood, no dings yet, just a couple paint chips. But I find it funny, the people who don't care about dings and stuff DONT GET THEM and the people, like me, who really care about there car and make an effort to keep the car in good shape get them.
The car I had before this, towards the end, was getting hit like crazy! Got a ding on the very edge of the driver door, so it would have been $700 to repair, stone chips galore on the hood, windshield and doors, and more door dings.

My frustration is like everyone else's...you park far way and aren't bothering anyone...but they always come.

Doubt many people purchase those stupid little protection plans the dealership tries to sell you when you buy your car, but one thing I did go for was this ding coverage from Dent Wizard. You're covered for 5 years for any dings/dents smaller than a credit card. They'll come to your house or wherever your car is to take care of it for you. I look over my car every so often, to see if I can find a reason to badger the poor guy.

Don't remember how much it costs off the top of my head, but I think 5 or so dings should bring you out on top. Personally, I'm still in the negative, but it's really nice not giving a crap about that stuff when I leave my car in the parking lot.

I've never had a single door ding on my E46 and E92, so pretty much since 2005, a good 6 years.

This is my method:
1. Park with everyone else, don't park far away and become an easy target to spot. (haters be hatin, why let them target u easier? Oh yea BMW drivers are so full of themselves they their their POS 3 series deserves special treatment? *rolleyes*)
2. Choose the spot that is as close as possible to where you want to go BUT not in a narrow one (meaning don't squeeze into a small spot, find a decent sized one where the 1 or 2 cars sandwiching you is parked correctly, therefore giving you ample space.
3. After finding your spot, if its an end spot, part closer to the edge but dont curb your wheel. If its a middle spot where you are sandwich by 2 cars, park closer to the LEFT car because there is a 100% chance there is a driver, but the passenger is the roll of the dice. This way there is more room for the car on the right to open their door. If you give them room, its less likely they'll ding your door.

This non BMW-Asshat elitist style parking has net me zero door dings in the last 6 years, and I daily drive my M3s and never had a single ding, scratch, or anything.

I laugh at those people who park far away and just to see some POS pull up next to it just to piss them off, talk about getting trolled in real life

Not a door ding...but...As i read this no more than an hour ago i went out front to play some ball with my son and after about an hour of that i decided to quick detail the front. What do i see? What i would guess to see a small rock that had hit my hood and took some of the paint off. About half a dime size. Super noticeable since it's AW. =( Arg.

bmw charges $100 +/- per door ding...

u may get lucky and never get one...but the minute one happens i just take it to the dealer/reputable spot and get it fixed - stress is relieved.

No door dings here by strangers as I never take the car to a place I have to park and be away for more than 15 mins.

So we got the 328 to take when we go out to dinner and shopping. Then I got paranoid about that car as well since it's brand new. So now I have a mini Cooper on order for errand trips.

I'm sure after I get that car, I'll just go buy a used Honda civic. It's maddening I know. I'm just sick like that

The only ding I suffered was from my mother who whacked my car while she was getting out of a van. She's 70 I can't get mad.

Just have your friend put a bigger dent on your car, you will be so pissed, that you will never notice any future dings.

Doordefender is it. I was thinking you can even make these. Foam tubes and magnets inside of it.
