That is a gorgeous shot - the colors are beautifully rendered and the relatively shallow dof almost turns the landscape into a painting, putting the focus on the bird of prey.

I'm a big fan of 2:1 and 5:2 crops in the right situations. I also do a lot of 1:1 (square) crops. This is such an easy thing to do, but so many people simply fail to consider it. My first camera was a 44x44mm TLR, so I got very used to the square crop and longed for the pano crop. Now we've got it all with a click or two. Ain't digital photography grand?!
