Clock falling behind

I have a 2008 M3 E92. I noticed in the past week that every morning I get in the car the clock is about 5 minutes behind. I readjust it but the next morning it is the same. About a week ago the clock and trip had totally reset themselves. And two days ago, I was installing my Valentine1 in the car and had the car in accessory (with interior dome lights on) but with the engine off. About 15 minutes after that the battery warning chime and light went on. Car started fine though. This never happened in the summer, only recently when it got cold.

Given all this, I'm assuming I need a new battery? I saw a similar "clock lag" thread on here but no resolution was ever given from the author about it..

I would try getting a charger first to see if the battery just needs to get fully charged before buying a new battery.

the previous poster knows a lot more about electronics than i do,so that's good advice.i would say that if it's the original battery and it's having those symptoms,it's probably time for a new one.the previous owner of my car had the clock slowdown,and got a new battery at 4 years.that fixed it.4 to 5 years is about as long as i would expect these batteries to last with the amount of electrical drain on these cars.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will just get a new battery. This morning we had our first day with below freezing temperatures. When I parked the car at work I turned it off (but dash and screen was still on) and spent a couple of minutes gathering all my stuff. In those 2 minutes the "low battery" warning came on. I think I should just get one. Where is a good place to get a OEM battery from? And I read here that I need to register it...I assume this can be done at a dealer but are they gonna charge me? I still have CPO extended warranty.

AFAIK the OEM battery is only available at the dealer. Yes, the dealer will charge to register it.

People have gone other routes as far as using other brands. Personally, I would stick with OEM. These cars can be super picky when it comes to the electronics.

I went through the same thing. Battery warnings and losing 5 minutes every time it gave me that warning.

I purchased a battery charger per my service advisor to see if I could bring it back to life. I drive an '08 with the original battery. Since I've charged, no further warnings/clock adjustments.

My advisor also told me that no matter how long or at what RPM you drive, the "charging system" in the car isn't designed to bring the battery back to life, but is only designed to maintain it. Giving it a good overnight charge seemed to work for me. YMMV, but having a good charger around is always a good idea. I picked one up that's a smart charger, which senses how much charge is needed and adjust its output based on that, all the way down to a "trickle" mode. Cool, and less than $100.00.

I had the same problem about 6-9 months ago with the clock plus also started getting low battery charge warnings. I expected this because my work commute is only 3 miles and have the under drive pulley... Plus the wife prefers we drive the rover when she is in the car with me lol. Before buying a new battery I bought a charger from Pepboys since its good to have one at home anyway and charged my battery overnight. The charger didn't return a dead battery warning ... some models also check your battery. I've not had the problem again and every other month or so when I Think about it or while cleaning the car I hook it up preventatively but still has gone months without charge and no problems.

I'm having the same issue after I took my car in for service. They were doing diagnostics on it all morning. When I got home, I got the yellow battery charge light. It comes on if I don't shut off the electronics within 3 minutes of shutting down the engine.

No Matter how much I drive, I still get it. I'm sure the dealer drained it but I can't recharge it with the alternator.
