Shift Lights from JB4 - Possible to get on M3?
I helped a buddy of mine, member alexc93 on E90post, install his JB4 that he got today...after taking it out for a spin and checking out all the new features, I have to day that I really like the shift light feature. Check it out:
Is there any way we can get this to work on the M3? Through coding or something? I would love to have this feature as I don't want to drop the money on a BMW Performance steering wheel....thoughts? -Krozi

yeah that is actually really cool feature to have. I think maybe autologic tool can do this.. I am not so sure.. try contact some of the vendors that does the coding see if they can figure something out.

Ooooo thats gay...and seems unnecessary to have two different clusters from a business standpoint.

Im sure you could ask Terry @ BMS if he has a piggy for shifting lights etc on am M3...who knows? Not sure how different the communications are between the ECU/CAN on an M3 are in comparison to the 335i but it would be a welcome item for the 6MT M3 community =)

There are multiple ways. If the OBDII connector is similar to the N54, there is CAN as well as a tach signal. From there any type of shift light would work. Be it a discrete buzzed or your big dash mounted unit.
I'll scope the port soon and determine what signals are where and look into a simple solution. I prefer buzzers as the audible tone doesn't require looking away from the road and this is fairly easy to do and not visible. Last edited by scalbert; 01-12-2011 at 06:33 PM.. |

The same pin is available on the OBDII connector so I will throw a scope on it and see it it is an RPM signal. If so, this would be very easy to do. But the question is, would anyone want it? Do most want flashign turn signals or soemthign else?
I'll still probably put together an audible notification. Perhaps beeps and then a steady tone as you get near the redline. |

I actually would prefer the indicator lights to be the shift lights.
