Car serviced, finished at 5 dealer would not release car

My service rep called me today at 5 and said my car was just finished for service (since Thursday) but that he would not release the car because he did not want to just have it washed but detailed, and that I could pick it up tomorrow morning. Seems awfully weird...

thoughts?

its not in their best interest to keep your car on their lot, they need to get your car out so they can get another in.

something is likely very wrong, go see what is left of your car right now, or demand pictures of it

good luck

Sounds odd to me. Never heard of dealers detailing cars after a service.

I would never ever let the dealer detail my car. When they "wash" the cars they pretty much just rub in the dirt with a towel that has been used to wash the previous car's wheels.

If they actually detail it I would be scared of the damage they would inflict with the orbital.

Maybe they dinged it and want to detail the car to hide any blemish

I take a photo of the mileage with my phone every time I hand my keys to someone other than my wife.

Can't hurt. I'm also contemplating walking around the car with the SA when dropping it off to have them verify that nothing is wrong with the car when I drop it off, along with them seeing that I am taking pics of the car in the service drive to document things.

wow you guys are really paranoid. Even if something happens its a car. Even if they joy ride in the worst case, what do you think 50 extra miles on the clock will do, even if they redlined it and drove it hard? I redline it and drive it hard every single mile-what would it matter?

You can let them jump yours off a cliff if it's not important to you. Most people here care about their vehicles and don't enjoy theft and mishandling of their vehicles.

You realize that you could have just said, "Nah, never mind the detail or wash, I just want my car back. I'll be there in 10 minutes."
