Waiting for my M . . .
I'm going a little nuts here.
When I was a teen, I was car obsessed. I remember going back and forth about whether I would rather have the Ferrari GTO, or the Testarossa. When I went to college and medical school, however, my obsession dissipated in the face of all my work and studying. My car was a 90 HP 4D Saturn SL with power-nothing and a manual transmission that only I could drive around the hills of San Francisco, but I still would get a thrill with a perfectly matched downshift in a turn... Then, while visiting my father in Florida during a break somewhere around 2000, we went to a BMW car dealer to check out the (then) new Mini Cooper that everybody was talking about. On a lark we went on a test ride in one of the prior M3 models. I specifically remember downshifting and punching it to get in front of another car. In my Saturn it would have needed quite a stomp on the gas, and likely turning off the air conditioner (which I called my "turbo button"). In the M, however, it pinned everyone's heads to the head rests and instantly cooked off the patina that had formed on my car obsession. After that I literally had dreams about shifting the M3. Since then, the M3 has been a goal; I told myself when I could afford it I would get it. Now -about 10 years later- I am finishing my training and am finally at a point to buy one. To be sure I tested a Merc C63, and an Audi S5 (no 4 available), but there was no real competition. A few weeks ago I put an order in for a 2011 Alpine White M3 coupe. I have been too busy at work to call my dealer constantly to find out when I will get it (fortunately for him). I have been e-mailing him, but he is not to prompt with his responses. On Friday, April 2, I got the simple response "It has been built, but not shipped." AAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! -s |

I'm currently further away from my M3 E93 than ever
I'm in first year of a seven year dutch law study (university level)... it's gonna take ages. By the time I'll have the cash petrol engines will probably be long gone. The thought of that alone makes me so incredibly sad... you can't imagine. |

It's just too damn expensive. But on the other hand.. if a lawyer / district attorney / judge can't pay for it then who will?! I'll just have to ride this out and see where it'll take me... but I'm seriously scared I'll never know what it feels like to buy a brand new high performance petrol powered car from a dealership Gotta confess, I'm only 19 yrs old as I write this, but still. Edit:// Just wanted to add that I'm absolutely and sincerely happy whenever I read about one of you guys getting yourself a BMW M3 but it somehow also strengthens the fear of not experiencing it myself one day. |

Waited a long time for mine too. What is it about physicians and M3"s? sure helps me unwind on the drive home after a tough day in the OR.

Good for you to have the patience to wait until the time is right. In this day and age of immediate gratification you don't see that often. You will enjoy it that much more!

I am finishing my residency in Family Medicine and I have been dreaming about my first M3 since I was 14. I remember looking in the classified ads at the used M3s wishing for my first one. I cannot begin to count the number of times I have built an M3 on bmwusa or how many times I have changed my color combination. Congrats on finishing EP. My hat goes off to you. I will be ordering mine in November... (birthday gift).
... the only thing that may get me from my M3 is the CTS-V wagon! |

congrats! I feel your pain and am actually in the same boat. I'm about to graduate finally after 23yrs of education had questioned a thousand times if what I was doing is going to be worth it. but all it took was a test drive to answer that question.
I just got a job and am getting my 2011 M3 these days. I could barely take my foot off the pedal during M3 test drives so don't have any idea how I'll contain myself when I receive mine (maybe won't, at least during ED in germany)! by the way I have been dreaming about an s5 for 2 years but drove one last month and although the ext design and interior are both spectacular, it just didn't make me feel like a kid like the M3 did. so can't wait to fill with joy as the rest of you when I get her but I know the wait's going to kill me!! |

Just wait til ObamaCare kicks in.... All the docs will be trading and swapping leases on their M3s faster than you can say "Hyundai"

My wait has been positively BRUTAL.
Luckily my car arrives at the port in 2 DAYS....now it will be even tougher because I don't know how long from port to dealer.
