Best of Chemguys

Hi guys,

I'm trying to make a list of what to buy off Chemguys (The AUS website, not sure if US is different) but the stuff looks very generic.

For instance is this the best shampoo to use?
http://www.chemguys.com.au/Car_Wash_..._p/cws_101.htm

It doesn't say anthing about pH neutral or anythig like that. Is that the best/ most recommended?

I'm also looking for a hose-powered foam gun but doesn't look like they sell anything like that.

Thanks in advance

Hello from the opposite side of earth. You'll find most of the Chemical Guy's line is very generic in nature: they're popular for making fair priced chemicals that can be purchased in gallons. Some of their products have been made to get away from that an appeal better to enthusiasts: some of their new bottling and products like high dollar waxes are being marketed because of growing demand and interest in detailing from enthusiasts and the incredible mark-up that can be earned on some of these products.

What's "the best" is a matter of opinion. I find products like Chemical Guy's Citrus Wash the best product for stripping safely and effectively. I truly don't think there's a better maintenance shampoo than Dodo Juice's top two: Supernatural Shampoo and Born to be Mild.
Regardless of what you're looking for, you'll likely find a pretty good version made by Chemical Guys.

I use their citrus wash to strip off any remaining wax before I put down a couple coats of JetSeal 109. those are the only products I have experience with, and both work brilliantly (especially the JetSeal, which is very easy to apply and has excellent protection and durability).

Citrus Wash won't strip anything as it is pH neutral; it's a maintenance shampoo like Maxi Suds II. Citrus Wash & Gloss on the other hand will strip effectively. I break down their shampoos into purpose:

Maintenance (won't strip LSPs, pH neutral):

http://www.chemicalguys.com/Car_Wash..._p/cws_101.htm

LSP stripping (pH towards acidic end of spectrum):

http://www.chemicalguys.com/Premium_..._p/cws_301.htm

And they do carry two foam gun variants:

http://www.chemicalguys.com/FOAM_BLA..._p/hol_181.htm
http://www.chemicalguys.com/FOAM_WAS...p/hol_ff_2.htm

Cheers guys. If I can get away with saving a few $$$ without sacrificing quality on the basics like car+wheel stuff, then I can put the savings towards a decent foam gun + Swissvax Blau.

*Edit* Damn aus store doesnt have the foam gun ><

I've been using the maxi suds the last couple of washes and think it's just okay. It's cleans and lubricates just fine, but don't think it lives up to its "maxi suds" name. Maybe I'm not using enough.

Finally checked their site from the links above and they have some nice deals on microfiber. I've been shopping around lately for MF, so that's great timing.

I'm thinking about the el gordo or the fluffer miracle towels. Any opinions on those or other suggestions?

My stuff arrived today - Will let you know how the el gordo extra thick MF towels go.

As an aside: I also ordered their softer than wool wash mitt. What a crock, I'll be lucky if my RIMS ever see this mitt, feels like it will sand away my clear cote. I will stick to Meguiars lambswool washer.

Will report back on how I go with the other stuff I use.

I like the Maxi Suds 2. I have their Citrus wash but it strip wax too much for a maintenance wash.

The Orange Fatty drying microfiber are also pretty good.
http://www.chemicalguys.com/BEST_TOW..._p/mic_881.htm

Their sealants and waxes are only so-so. You can definitely get better elsewhere.

The main reason I buy there is because I drop by their office sometimes and pick them up so it saves on shipping. Inglewood is not really a good neighborhood though.

First time I've ever heard anyone say that. Citrus Wash, Citrus Wash and Clear, and Citrus Wash and Gloss are all capable of stripping LSPs at higher dilution.

The only few things that I find I will probably buy again from Chemical Guys is the Super blue wheel cleaner (cost effective for maintanence washes), the Citrus Wash and Gloss for when you need a stronger cleaning, and Maxi suds.

Other than that, I have spent hundreds of dollars there, and have noticed they relabel a cheaper product and price it much higher. (Blacklight, which I have found to be pretty much identical to easy creme glaze with a different scent).

For dressings, the silk shine is one of the better ones. VRP is no good and will probably give my gallon of it away.

One of their better products is their Leather Cleaner. The Conditioner though, is a bit too greasy and unnatural.

I have also realized that all of their citrus based washes have the ability to strip protection.

I'm a big fan of:

Maxi Suds II - this is my standard wash
Citrus Wash - when I want to strip the car to get ready for polishing
Silk Shine - this is a great product on tires and plastic (nice matte finish)
No More Bugs & Tar - great for removing caked on bugs
Honeydew Snow Foam - just started using it, it seems more foamy than Maxi Suds II, and I might just turn this into my standard wash.

blacklight has some sealant / protection to it better than ezcream glaze. EZcream cleans better IMO as thats what it was designed for...especially good for menzerna polishes like 106 and 85rd where you dont want to keep wiping and wiping (especially on a black car!)

What about for light scratch removal? Dealership swirled the shit out of my car (To the depressing level) for my pre-arrival delivery.
