Camaro ZL1 vs M3

6.2L Supercharged V8 LSA
6 Speed Manual Transmission
Heavy Duty Driveline
Magnetic Ride Control
Brembo Brakes
Electric Power Steering
Track Ready Cooling Systems
Aggressive bodywork, including vented hood, Transformers 3 style bumper, special wheels
New steering wheel and interior trim with nice silver accents throughout

6.2-liter LSA V8 engine will put out around 550 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque.
Those ponies will be sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission using a dual-disc clutch that's necessary to properly harness all those horses.

Okay.....

However, my lawn furniture would make a higher quality interior than what that thing has.

Agreed... American cars definately lack in some areas.

My major complaint has always been fit and finish....but the interiors are pretty lame too.

Heard it handles like a brick... Looks cool, but still wonder how it would handle on the track

Sad thing is its true..

The interior of the new Camaro is absolutely hideous. The Mustang has way better workmanship and materials than the Camaro. You would be better off with a GT500.

I used to think it was cool but the whole "Retro" thing is so played out. Now it just demonstrates a lack of creativity among the US manufacturers.

Kind of like the movie industry. The ratio of re-makes to originals these days is like a diesel engine's compression.

Actually the new Mustang isn't bad at all. Also have you seen the interiors of the new Fords such as the new Focus, Fiesta, Edge and Explorer. Ford is making leaps and bounds improvements. The next generation Mustang is going to be up there with the rest of the world.

I think that thing is pretty badass..... I wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating oats!!!!

I friend of mine has the 5.0 Mustang..... I am not particularly impressed with the interior. I personally thought the interior of my 2001 Bullitt was better.

Well the Camaro SS did the Nürburgring in 8:20. So it can handle well on a track. Question is if it can outhandle the new mustang.

I still think the interior of the new mustang is overhyped. I didnt think it was all that great as others seem to think. Guess its easier to give credit to the underdog. Just so you know im not a domestic car hater, ford did an outstanding job on the Ford Edge that i recently test drove. Now that interior was very well made for its price segment.

Always loved the camaro and this ZL1 is sexy. Cant wait to drive one.

First of all I have to say that member of M3 forum are much more matures then 3 forum. Although I am not a big time poster, I check out forum every day and enjoy most of the threads.

But I can't help myself asking this question to M3 owners. Every time there is a M3 vs some other car comparasion, the first thing people mention is M3's track performance. That would be fine if majority of M3 owners track their cars. I bet 95% of M3 owners never tracked their cars.

So my question is this : why do you guys take so much pride of M3's track abilities and put down other cars although you don't rack your car?

I don't mean any dis to anyone. I am just curious..

Where does this 95% figure keep coming from? I'm sick and tired of hearing that "95% of owners don't track". I take my car to the track, and from the pictures and activity in the Track/Competition sub-forum, many other M3post members go to the track, too.

Please, don't pass judgements on us without knowing us.

YEs, they have come a long ways. However, the overall fit and finish (not the interior specifically) still isn't up to standard IMHO.

Body panels don't line up well, huge gaps, interior door-to-dash panels don't align, etc, etc.

Those are some of my gripes...but they HAVE gotten better.....I'll give you that.

However, I still think MOST domestic cars look like they are assembled by a bunch of monkeys.

I agree that the substantial majority of M3s will never see the track, but I would say that there are plenty of people on the forum who do use them on the track. to be more relevant though, I would bet money that there are relatively more M3 drivers who bring their cars to the track than most other performance cars out there. I've been to numerous track events, and there's always strong representation from BMW ///M, Porsche, Lotus, Corvettes and a couple others - not much from other performance cars. I don't see many AMG cars or Audis, for instance.

nevertheless, don't dismiss the fact that track performance can be felt on the street. just because you don't push the limits of a car on the street doesn't mean you can't explore its competencies. there are plenty of ways to drive an M3 on the street to appreciate its exceptional balance and superb handling.

if the only thing M3 drivers cared about were straight line performance, they wouldn't have bought an M3 - a quicker car can be built for much less. everyone knows that. same thing goes for track performance - you can build a car that can lap a track quicker for less as well. the M3 has always been extremely well-reviewed for its ability to excel at so many things. cars can't be evaluated in one dimension (straight line acceleration, for example) - that's just silly. the value proposition of the M3 lies not merely in its track performance or acceleration, but also in its styling, build quality, materials, interior space and comfort. the M3's track performance really only becomes impressive when you consider its ability to be a comfortable daily driver.

lastly, I will say that the tests of the M3 against its relevant competitors by automotive journalists speak for themeselves. while I don't have any hard data, I will say that in the many years that I have been an automotive enthusiast who does a lot of reading, I can't remember a car that has won so many comparisons and received such universal praise. there's no question in my mind that BMW hit a home run with the e9x M3. the design is roughly 4 years old and it's still glorious.

It's impressive with 550 hp and an aggresive exterior however trying to do the "retro" look on the inside didn't work so well. I read the interior was to recieve a redo, hmm. But having said the i don't care for the double hump flat faced dash on my M3. My S5 was more refined. not a materials issue as the M3's materials are outstanding just would have preferred a more driver oriented cockpit.
