That is the court case the lawyer who attends HPDEs noted to me as well. My only concern is that all it would take would be for the insurance companies to specifically exclude accidents that occur on a track (regardless of your purpose on the track) and we would be SOL again. I think that is what is happening in the U.S.

For now, it does appear that we are OK.

I have DE insurance in writing, as long as it's not a racing or a timed event.

Awesome! What insurance company do you use? Did you just call them and request this in writing?

thnx for all the work guys, If it was a few hundred bucks I'd buy it easy, but this 8k premium is bulls*&t. I pay 3k for a whole year!

As an update: you really should check with your broker before you assume you're covered, court case precident or otherwise. I'm with TD moneche monex (spelt it wrong probably) and I'm pretty sure there's a clause excluding track events, even just non timed non race business. I think as soon as you pull into the driveway @ the track, your insurance stops. This may be just the special TD insurance since this particularly branch gives better rates to "professionals" (doctors and such). Other providers may be more lenient/inclusive. Again, please check before you leave, better safe than sorry.

Good general advice. However, I checked the fine details of the TD Meloche Monnex policy and it does not exclude driving on a "track" but does exclude racing or speed contests. Lawyer friends tell me that they feel HPDE's are "technically" covered based on the wording but to prepare to fight it in court if there is a significant claim.

My new motto is don't do it if you can't afford the out of pocket costs if the car is run into a wall. An alternative is to get a cheaper track car (a.k.a. E36 M3) that won't be as painful $$$ wise if something bad happens.

True say, get a beater and you don't care if you wreck it cuz it only cost u 10 k cheap thrills aplenty. I bought this car specifically for the jackyl & hyde aspect of daily driving/tracking. That being said I'll just go "slow" so I know I won't wreck. I got addicted to tracks when a friend of mine rented the short track @ mosport for the day, will probably just do that again only with the full track and split the cost as much as possible. Weekdays are probably the best since it'll be quieter and I think they let you pay/lap?

"Boss, I'm not feeling so good today, gonna have to use a sickday!" VROOOOOM

Just received this today from my insurance contact.I would not be suprised that this spreads to other insurance companies in Ontario.

Quote:
Attached as advised the wording is approved by FSCO ( financial services commission of Ontario ) required for any amendments to Ontario automobile Insurance. Chubb will apply this to insurance on Porches, Ferrari's and similar type vehicles. Chubb are a major insurer of high end clients however as this is approved it should be available to other insurers.
